Had a family friend today tell me he has a after market y pipe for my 2003 6.0 f250 that he would sell me and install. Which would replace, for lack of better words crushed factory one that is in there now. My question is what would be a ballpark price for the y pipe and removal and replacement of it. what kind of money would I be looking at on average. He has not quoted me anything yet. Thanks

It is a time consuming and crappy job. I have done a few, and can do it in a few hours now. But getting to the bolts is a big PITA. Turbo has to come out, which isnt bad.

Depends what he thinks his time is worth. The dealer would probably want close to 1000$. But the OEM up pipes are like 250$ of that.

My aftermarket Y-Pipe I installed did not fit well going in, taking a crowbar to align it. Needless to say after in it leaked. I'd like to see why he is selling the Y-Pipe to start with. I then had an OEM pipe installed and it worked fine.

I had more work than just the Y-Pipe done so I don't know the portion of the bill that went for that, but I think about $700 total from a shop may be a fair price. I'm guessing the $250 for the pipe and 4 hours of labor.

There's other stuff like getting the turbo cleaned since its out, maybe another hour of labor. Also, taking a look at the exhaust manifold and see if it is leaking with black smoke stains where it attaches to the engine, which would mean a new seal and or manifold is needed.

If you do decide to do the work yourself, moon wrenches and a super long extension bar from underneath is how I loosened and tightened the bolts.

Great info guys thanks. The y pipe is from a project that didn’t go so it is just laying around along with the full exhaust system. He is a mechanic and has done a few of these. I always like to get other opinions on price so I know what he is asking is in the ball park. For what I’ve learned replacing the deformed y pipe is a big benefit for the motor and turbo.
