What's this disconnected connector by my fuel filter?

I was under my X installing an EGT probe and noticed this connector hanging down. Looks like it plugs into the fuel filter but didn't fully plug in. What's it supposed to do, and any idea why it won't plug in?

WIF sensor (water in fuel) -- see the the connector next to the drain plug?

use some spray electrical cleaner and blow out the terminals, so the connector will snap back in

wouldn't hurt to remove the drain plug and spray some brake cleaner in there to help remove the crud buildup -- or better yet, remove the side cover and give the chamber a good cleaning

If you arn't the original owner the water in fuel sensor was a little finnicky to say the least. Once every few years I would remove it and hose it with brake/carb cleaner and it would clear a lot of gunk out. Seemed to be just a bad design in how crud built up and wouldn't settle/drain it would just build up. I didn't drain it often as after draining it 3-4 times a year it didn't seem to help so just every couple of years sprayed like 1/4 can of brake clean and all was good lol.

Yeah, I just bought it about a week and a half ago and am fixing things. Kind of a project. But I'll give that a shot and see if I can't get it to plug in. It really did NOT want to go in...hopefully cleaning helps.

Took your guys' advice and cleaned connectors. It snapped back on. Took the opportunity to drain it while under too...seemed pretty normal, broke free ok with allen wrench. Edit: Dumped into glass jar and don't see any separation and idiot light isn't on when I start it. Guess I'm good.
