This was review for Blackwater engine I did back in 2023. This company is different then Blackwater diesel. Hopefully this helps someone thats thinking about buying an engine, to avoid a ton of headaches. They apparently use copper spray on all there reman engines. I prefer oem engines except Ford started doing the spray weld process on the cylinder walls, and since then the ford remans have had a ton of blowby.
Below is the complete Google review..
Im a Ford Diesel Specialty shop. At the dealer for 10 years. Had my own shop for about 12 years now. Got a Ford 6.0l from these Guys. After 40 miles headgaskets where blown. I had cleaned the turbo and a new unison ring while it was off the truck, so no overboosting. I used the Ford recommended U-view test chem. After inspection noted that the headgaskets where coated in copper spray. Provided documentation from the Ford shop manual stating specifically that copper spray should not be used (See pic) on headgaskets or engine damage could be caused. Jake in there warranty department stated they do this with all there headgaskets and said the copper spray is not why the headgaskets failed after only 40 miles. I tried to reason with him explaining that the bonding compound on the MLS gasket must have no barrier between it and the metal of the block/head (i.e. oil, grease, or in this case copper spray). He still said they did nothing wrong and would continue to do this to all there headgaskets. Maybe on some types of headgaskets you could get away with copper spray but NOT on MLS gaskets as clearly seen in this case. After pulling the cab again and doing headgaskets on this engine we just purchased from Blackwater the truck now is doing great.. No more exhaust gas in the coolant. On a 6.0l when the headgaskets are properly sealed you can take the truck out and drive it. Get it up to operating temp and crack the degas bottle cap and all it should do is a little hiss. Anything more then a hiss and you likely have headgaskets starting to leak exhaust gases into the water jackets. Blackwater did provide new gaskets and $500 for labor ($500 in labor to do headgaskets on a diesel would be fine for labor if it was 1983, but its 2023)... The most illogical part of this whole thing is that they refuse to admit they are doing anything wrong even when providing evidence they are. Prov 16:18-20 Update: Just got an email replay from Permatex stating they do not recommend using copper spray on MLS headgaskets....

This is true with any MLS gaskets. You want the sealer to bond to the block and head surfaces and let the natural movement of the gaskets be within the layers. If the gaskets can move on the deck or head, the sealer will abrade away, as with excessive clearance. I had a long talk with people I knew at Fel-Pro before their communication got shut down.

I went through some of this in my gasket video.

I'll throw in the other related ones for any wandering DIYers in the future.
