Got a cracked up pipe in my late 04 6.0. Should I go with stock again or aftermarket? Been looking at the elite diesel one with the heavy duty bellows.

Also if I pull the turbo and downpipe can I yank the old out the top? I plan on removing the passenger fender well too for ease of access

I'm running the mbrp up-pipes I bought from rudys.
I installed mine without removing the downpipe or fender liner, wasn't bad to do.

Just bought the BDs excited to put them on.

Mbrp it is, how did you get them out without removing the down pipe? Did you go out the top or bottom?

Through the top, there was plenty of room (with the turbo removed).

Not the best pic but here's a set I recently installed. Do yourself a favor and do not tighten the bolts on the mani's until you get the flange bolted to the back of the turbo. Makes installation much easier. If you don't take off the passenger side egr pipe be sure to loosen one bolt on the mani to free the pipes.

Yep, that's what I do with ANYTHING exhaust, leave all connections loose until everything is attached.

Ordered the MBRP up pipes yesterday, good deals on the 4th. Decided to clean up the turbo while im in there, been about 100k since I last clean it.

Thanks for the help and decided which up pipes to go with, Ill let you know how the tear down and rebuild goes.

Finally got around to starting on this project last night. Got the turbo out really quick, like 30 minutes. Really struggled on the driver side up pipe to manifold bolts, especially the one that is nearly blind. I ended up pulling both passenger and driver side fender wells off to gain access. Thanks to MN salt, I struggled to get the bolt out when the nut was off! I ended up using an air hammer to drive them out, lol. Almost rusted completly solid to the manifold.

I am really glad I bought a top side creeper a while back because it really made it nice working up top. any who, tonight I will start the install process, gotta swing by tousley ford and get some parts today.

I painted the MBRP up pipe assembly and really looks good, just hope it fits now because it will be tough to return after it is painted, lol.

here are some pics of the old up pipe, notice my hillbilly epoxy I used to get home from the cabin when she blew. Worked for about 400 miles and then blew again.

Well worked on it again last night, MBRP up pipes definitely fit up nicely. Gotta finish it up tonight and check that project off the list! I also upgraded to stainless steel nuts and bolts because I am sick of these bolts rusting out. FOr good measure I used a light layer of high temp RTV at all connections (except the turbo) and high temp anti sieze and everything, including the up pipe to turbo mating surface.

P.S. - if you can I highly recommend having an extra set of hands! this job sucks by yourself. Half of the time is spent climbing up top and then underneath and then back up top to get things lined up and bolts started ect. Luckily I own a top side creeper that made it easier for reaching down behind the motor. I literally had to lay on my belly on top of the creeper to be able to reach the Passenger side flange where the EGR used to be.

If those are OE bellows I would steer away. That is why I went with MBRP because they use the heavy duty Turbo Flex bellows which last way longer than the .000000000001" thick OE style.

Good luck - Ps - the stainless bolts I got from ACE hardware and they are M8x1.25. If money was not an issue right now I would have replaced the manifolds with these, since I have the wheel skirts out everything is right there to wrench on.
