To Buy Or Not To Buy: 2015 Lariat

Greetings diesel heads, I’ve been reading a lot of good threads trying to decide on buying a 2015 F-250 Lariat. I have a good understanding of the pluses and minuses of a diesel over gas and am completely fine with the extra maintenance costs and repair costs. I have a 1/2 ton Toyota gasser already and am looking at expanding the fleet. My question is if you would buy this truck or not if you had $28,000 of hard earned money laying around.
Test Drive: Everything felt good. Start up was smooth, steering wasn’t pulling, brakes were good, no red flags.
The details:
160K Miles
5961 Engine Hours
1615 Idle Hours
Not deleted
Ranch Hand Bumper
Lifted
Bed Cover
Interior: 4 out of 5
Exterior: 4 out of 5
3 Owners (1st Corporate, 2nd & 3rd Private)
Carfax history shows good maintenace history but not great details.
THE BAD: Upper oil pan gasket leak. Was told it’s a common problem but still a $2,500-$3,000 fix.
Asking price: $28,000

Well…it’s purdy…a 350 would probably do better for you when the time comes to sell it.

I would run from it. While it's a great looking truck.... that wheel/ tire combo has wrecked havok on the front end. Plus i hate that look.

If that's the look you like, go for it. Only you can decide if it's worth buying. It's worth whatever a person is willing to pay for it.
I haven't priced out trucks since i bought mine in 08 i believe it was.

That's not a bad price depending in where you are. But.... as @INFRNL said, prepare for some front end work. Wheel bearings, ball joints, tie rod ends.
You should have a "maybe" option 😉

Thanks for the insight fellas. I’m located in CO so it seems like a decent price comparing to other similar diesels for sale.
When I test drove it I went to a parking lot and did circles both ways with the steering wheel cranked both ways and everything felt smooth and no weird noises. And truck didn’t pull an inch one way or the other at 75 on the freeway. So I feel fine about all the front end for now but you bring up good points it may be a future problem and a big one. I guess my best option is getting it on a lift for a wrench to look at it and give me the ugly truth before I drop the bag at the lot.

oh okay...being in CO our prices are typically higher for trucks.
also, as you mentioned...it's always a good idea to have a mechanic look things over. If it's at a reputable dealer, they should have already done that

Is that truck in Pueblo? I think I found the listing for it i autotrader. The wheels aren't as bad as I thought so it's a bit less of a worry.

It's probably fairly priced, I saw a few 2016/ 2017's in the low to mid 30's

Yeah, theres several of us around but that may be more on a different forum. I live in the Springs, so not too far away. My father in law lives in Pueblo.
definitely a good plan to see if a trusted mechanic can take a look at it. It looks extremely clean and nice. I'm not familiar with anything newer than a 6.0 though

Like everyone else said, it needs looked over by someone who knows what to look for.... When factoring in idle hours its got more like 200k on it.... Carfax should show oem f/f's every 20k or so.. LOF's every 5-8k.. Trans should of been serviced with oem filter about every 60k.. Coolant should of been serviced about 3 times by now..... Also running aftermarket air filters are not good. Take the breather boot off and look up inside if you see a lot of dirt sticking to the sidewalls. Over time this will dust the engine... What contributes to oil leaks is excessive blow by.. Sorry, I know, prob more info then you need..
