To buy or not to buy - 2006 6.0

2006 F250 4X4 CCSB with the ZF6. 76,000 miles and 1 owner truck, all stock.

What should a truck like this go for? I need a 4 door truck for my growing family and I hate automatics. Dont need a long box either, have an old 96 for beating up.

There are a million threads all over the net on "bulletproofing" the 6.0 but my main question is = would you buy one again? Considering the price of other crew cabs on the market, wondering if a 6.0 is the way to go.

Your opinions please.

I would make sure you hook it up to a good program like AE to check out the engine. Im rebuilding a 2006 (not mine thank God) right now which had been running with a lifter failure (flat not exploded) which I thought was rare for a 2006. A power balance test by AE would have shown the offending cylinder prior to the engine crapping out.

So I guess you would be buying it blind without checking out the engine properly for pending HPOP problems, failing lifters, LPOP destruction, blown head gaskets, etc. Looks like no year model is immune.

Timely maintenance is the key to longevity on the 6.0, oil and filter changes every 5,000 mi. with a quality synthetic oil and fuel filters every 10,000. OEM filters only. Talk to the owner of the truck and make sure he was doing what I just stated or walk away.

76,000 miles on a F250 Lariat can be all over place price wise depending on condition and location. 6.0 trucks are going up in value, you will see they are worth more then the newer 6.4 trucks.
In California for a very nice condition 2006 F250 CCSB 4X4 6.0 Lariat would go for anywhere between $18,000-$24,000.00 dollars.
Buying one with under 50,000 miles can be in the $30,000 range.

My truck just went over 51,000 miles and there's no way I would sell it for under $30,000.00 but I have a good amount into it as well.
Look up Carfax and local listings to get a idea on what they are going for in your area.

I would defiantly recommend getting it compression tested at the very least. I had a good friend that just had to buy himself a new engine because he was eating a piston ring...

Im on my second 6.0, my first was not a headache at all, sold due to body rot everywhere. This truck has been a PIA but I love it and wouldnt hesitate to buy another, especially if i could find a crew cab long box with a manual trans...

We've only had ours a few months. I went into it really only knowing the horror stories and info I researched. I'll speak to at least the engine side of it. Truck overall is quite different. If you don't want to read, see last sentence.

It came down to:

2006 F350 Lariat SuperDuty CrewCab Dually Long bed
149,000 miles
Came with gooseneck ball (We assumed it was used for hauling at this point)
2hrs away
loaded leather w/sunroof
Asking $15,900

VS

2004 3500 Chevy Quadcab Dually Long bed
240,000 miles
Came with gooseneck ball and had bracket holes for 5th hitch as well as a 7pin jacked up for their gooseneck trailer (we assumed it was "abused" for hauling at this point)
30min away
loaded leather w/dvd
Asking $14,900

These were only 2 of 4 duallies for sale in the state
We made it to test drive both. Both drove really nice. Body/frame wise wasn't so good to the chevy though and looked like it had been more abused, bed was scratched beyond touchup (bedliner would have fixed). The fiberglass bed was cracked too. After finding the pressure gauge in the console and seeing it led to airbags in the rear, I was pretty turned off but still hesitant on the ford. The ford had the classic door and tailgate rust but overall body and underbody looked really nice. Had spray bed liner and dealer threw in nice pace edwards tonneau cover. Aside from some expected driver seat wear, interior was spotless. Looked like it was taken care of.

Ultimately we went with the ford and I was expecting the worst. I didn't have any scanners and just went off the test drive and overall cleanliness. ::knock on wood:: SO FAR it has been really good to us. Only thing I could find was a hesitation under load (on the way home of course) which seems to have been (mostly?) fixed with syn oil change, blue spring and fuel filters. I did buy a used gas version Edge CS (couldn't pass up for $100) to monitor things like boost, ECT, EOT, Trans temp, FICM V, Bat V, Boost, MPH and RPM.

Sorry to drag on. Above summarized- Yes, I would buy another one at this point. From what everyone has said. Staying ahead or on track with maintenance is key though.

Paid 15,500 for ours back in November it is a 2003 CCSB Lariat 4x4 with topper. One owner had 115,000 on it (just over 130200 now) and clean inside, out and underneath. Have had normal issues but love the truck and daily drive anywhere from 500-1200 miles per week and would definitely do it again even with issues I have had. Imho they are more comfortable to drive than the dodges and chevys I have been in and with the aftermarket support any issues you have can be fixed at a reasonable cost. I have a total of around 21,000 in mine now and still smiling while driving. Good luck hunting and yes I would have paid 20,000 for a lower mileage truck.

I would love a 6.7 but dont want anymore payments. Even the 6.0 truck, 20K even with money down $200 a month. Its not a DD for me, have a subaru forester to get me to work and back :smile2:.

Thinking about a 01 7.3 CCSB Lariat 4X4 has a bad engine. Rings are gone owner got carried away with some ether. Its auto, which sucks. So rebuilding the 7.3 with some mods slowly over time as money allows and swapping in a ZF6 is looking like the route im headed.

Right on, that is what I was figuring.

$3500 for the 2001 truck with blown motor
$7500 engine work
$1000 oem ford parts for zf6 conversion
$2000 for zf6 rebuilt
$500 for stock clutch/solid flywheel kit

That is $13600 right there, and im sure there is a lot of other stuff that needs done too like front end work etc.

Might come out ahead gettin the low mileage 6.0 truck. I got the owners phone # gonna call him and talk about the truck. Attached a pic of the 6.0 its clean and bone stock.
