This P1000 code will be the death of me

Like the title says, cant get the p1000 code to clear on my truck to pass a smog check. I'm trying to sell it and have had to turn away 2 guys because it wont clear and pass smog! I ran it on a sct canned tow tune for about a year with the egr turned off, then tuned back to stock. I have driven about 1200 miles (yes thats 1,200 miles) waiting for it to clear and no luck. so i pulled the egr valve, cleaned it, new o-rings and made sure it was plugged in, disconnected the batteries for about 4 hours and have driven about 200 miles since and that P1000 is still there, Any other thoughts or recommendations? Thanks in advance :banging::banging::banging:

The p1000 means that readiness monitors have not yet been set. There are specific drive cycles that must be performed in order to reset. Disconnecting batteries or clearing the kam only starts the process over again.
Usually egr has the longest drive cycle, I believe.
Basically, If there are no fault codes, it just needs to be driven. Steady highway speeds, with vehicle up to temp, coasting, no brake application, and a mix of city driving should clear it eventually. Just have to be patient and Not clear the kam.

Your afe intake, wicked wheel, and bpd cooler may cause issues tho, as parameters may not be what the PCM expects to see. However, if no fault codes are being thrown, p1000 should eventually clear. May just take longer with those items. Just don't clear the kam tho.
If you still have issues, you could try just leaving a tune on there. They won't know it's in there

Yeah its an 06 with the 6.0
Like I said I've driven 1200 miles since putting back to stock and it's still there. It sounds like I screwed myself over by disconnecting the batteries, my bad! And in previous times it was fairly quick to clear the code to get it registered, so I don't get why it's taking so long this time around. They scan the computer, so do you think I could get away with it being tuned with egr off? Any other sensors I could clean to help the computer out? Thanks for the help so far!!

Also, no other codes minus the P1000.
Random, what is the KAM?

^^that is for gas, so not sure it would be the same with diesel. Could be, but not sure. If you have a decent scan tool, it will tell which monitors have and haven't yet set. I believe it's in mode 06 data. I think.

Honestly, I highly doubt the inspection facility is going to interrogate the PCM deep enough to find out its tuned. I doubt they'd even know how.
They probably just scan it and run a quick visual ensuring all the equipment is there

Well, been driving, put on about 350 miles and still there. It's weird, on my cts it shows no codes, but when I use the sct tuner it shows the p1000. Is it bad for the learn cycle to scan for codes frequently, or only when you clear the codes? Looks like I might try going tuned, so should I turn the egr off and keep it on a stock tune? Thanks for the help so far

well, i tuned my truck with the canned trans only tune with egr tuned off and failed the smog check again. i didnt have any codes when i scanned it but like i said failed the egr readiness test. anything else? fixing to take it to carmax and be done lol

Did you have the EGR plugged in and just sitting on the intake? Man California sucks here in NY any diesel before 08 is just safety no emissions.

Man i wish, that would make my life so easy lol and yeah the EGR was plugged in and actually bolted into the manifold

did a ton of reading (again) and does anyone think i should change out the up pipe for the stock one with the scoop?

I can't think of anything that would keep the p1000 code from clearing once drive cycles have been done. Like @kaya said, it's just a code that says "all the other things haven't been fully checked yet". Once they're checked it's cleared. Doesn't matter if other codes are set or not. Are you sure you're not accidentally clearing codes when checking or possibly losing power to the PCM at times?

Agree. I think that changing the PCM would be more likely to make it go away than anything, but that assumes that the power to the PCM is solid.

Have you tried running a separate +12 and ground directly from your driver side battery to the PCM connector in parallel with the harness? That or pay the Ford dealership to put one of those 6.0 data loggers in it.

When tuned to stock, if it's just the egr monitor that is not resetting, there is likely a parameter that the PCM is not seeing as expected.
You have a few aftermarket parts on there that could be the cause.
The PCM monitors maf, map, and ebp under certain conditions with respect to egr valve operation to determine if the system is working correctly. If one of those parameters are not in the pcm's window, the monitor will not set.
The afe intake or wicked wheel could cause the parameters to read outside what the PCM wants to see, yet not far enough to cause a DTC.

If it were me, because I have access to IDS, I'd run the egr system test in its entirety. That would show which parameter is out and further diagnostic could be performed to pinpoint the cause

Thanks everyone for pitching in.
I don't think I'm resetting the learn cycle when checking codes, although I can't say with 100% confidence. I don't check anymore with my cts cause it doesn't show the p1000, so everytime I have checked has been with my sct x3.
To be honest, I don't know if the pcm is cutting out or not (for lack of better verbage). I can say that the truck starts perfect, runs perfect, and sounds like it should. I replaced the batteries about a month ago, so that's the last time to my knowledge that it's been without power.
I found a crack in one of the boots on the intake past MAF, so I went to AFE and got a new boot, so I'm crossing my fingers that will help. I thought about putting all the stock parts back on but I remember passing smog just fine 2 yeas ago when I registered my truck for California plates.
After switching back to the stock tune yesterday, I cleared the KAM with the sct because I figured I have nothing to loose after switching tunes. That combined with the new boot and im crossing my fingers!
Doesn't sound like a bad idea to data log it though to see who isnt playing nice. Sorry for the long a $$ post!

Good news (I think) I have some activity going on with the egr according to my cts. So looking at the commanded % and egr error %, is it safe to assume I should replace the egr valve?
