Hey Guys !!!
Long time member (but more like a weekend novice).
Its taken me 20+ years (online here) to learn the little I do know, and I have tackled some complicated tasks...
thanks again !!! LOL

Original owner of '01 F250 PSD 7.3 that developed bad GEM. NO windshield leaks, just a bad solder joint it seems. Anyways .... I FINALLY found exact same model GEM on E-Bay. Bought and swapped it out and all my issues were resolved, I thought. \
My truck is 2 wheel drive (and even my original GEM attached ) had 4X4 marked on it so I assumed the replacement was cross-compatible.

A recent Forscan ( also attached) indicated many DTC's associated with 4X4 transmission.
FYI, the ( DTC B1352 is something I did, disconnected ignition chime from key cylinder)

My question is...
Can I modify the GEM via Forscan Lite to progarm that the config on my truck is two wheel drive and not 4 wheel drive ??? I do not have any other trans issues, that I'm aware of.... or that are reflected in KOEO or KOER scans.
I seem to be having trouble uploading the .pdf of the scan so will need to post .jpeg's

Thanks for ALL YOUR HELP over the years.

As far as I know,,, GEM's are Not programmable by anybody... :(

But you couldn't have "found exact same model GEM on E-Bay" because I'm guessin' yours didn't say "4X4 w/RKE" right on it! ~ hehe
Last thing I wanted was some jackass response like that. The photo posted IS my old GEM module !!
Get real or get gone... Thx

So for clarity, you replaced your GEM and corrected your issues however the module is giving you 4X4 codes and this is a 2WD truck?

@mikgala Clearing some things up... A GEM is programmable. Replacing it requires performing a "PMI" programmable module installation which inhales the module configuration which is used when the new module is installed. Alternatively, a GEM can be reconfigured using "As-Built Data" which restores the module to the factory configuration associated with a truck's VIN. Alternatively, some parameters like 4WD can be enabled/disabled using a Ford scan tool. Enabling something like 4WD does require caving the correct hardware but turning it off is not an issue. Not sure what or if FORScan can do this. HTH.

Thx Ford Dr and apologize for absence. Holidays and all and I lost track.
You seem to know what the problem is, but now I need to find someone with a laptop and Forscan Pro to "turn off the 4WD parameter in this GEM'S programming.Ford dealer cannot or willnot attempt this... maybe due to age ???
Any ideas moving forward ?
Truck runs and tows my 15 K fifth wheel all through Smokey Mntns grades without any noticeable difference, so IDK if the GEM just doesn't find 4WD device and reports same on scan.

Thanks
Michael

In theory a dealer should be able to program it with the factory file using the VIN if the file is still available in the database. I personally have not run into module files not being available - yet. I don't think Ford drops those quickly.

I don't know if 2001 is different than 1999, but in 1999 the 2WD GEM has three cavities like the 4X4 GEM, but the 2WD does not have pins in 2 of the cavities. The 2WD GEM is about 2" shorter, too.

Is there a mating connector in your 2WD for all the connectors on the side of your 4X4 GEM? I find it interesting that an Original Owner truck had a 4X4 GEM in a 2WD. Again, perhaps there's something about 2001 that is different than 99.

IDK about that. The GEM i replaced was the exact same size, number and dimension as the original.
It has to be programmable because the same series numbered GEM is used for 2WD and 4WD models.
There is no 2 WD GEM that I've seen.in 2001 model year F-250.

If P1865 was present with both GEMS, the problem is external to the GEM.

I looked in my Factory Service Manual and it is not very helpful re P1865. It does not explain the conditions for which the DTC sets. "Transfer Case [Encoder] Plate shorted to ground." The t-case encoder has 5 wires to it. 4 contacts and a common. Depending on T-case shift rail position, different of the 4 position circuits are grounded by the common connection. I don't understand how the DTC is set, so I can't offer a specific remedy.

If they put a 4X4 GEM in a 2WD, the wiring at least up to the connectors under the under-hood fuse box is probably there too. One of the three connectors is specifically for the T-case. I would inspect it carefully for internal corrosion that the GEM may be interpreting as a "short to ground". Or just live with the code. That's all I've got.
