I was trying to take the housing off and it is seized on there really good. It started to bend the mount so I strapped it down and sprayed some creeper oil and waited a bit. I smacked it on the side with a hammer a few times then torqued on it. The bolt head on the bottom of the housing busted clean off. I’m not too impressed right now lol. I tried my chain wrench and still no give. Maybe in a few days I’ll try again.

It could be worse I guess, I could be sitting here with a cracked housing. It really makes me wonder when it was last changed. Oh well, I know what’s next I guess if it won’t go on the next try.

It looks pretty straight forward changing out the filter adapter, I’ll probably change a rusty line I see as well. Fun stuff!

Wow, that's on tight... If i remember right, when i did mine i had to turn with one hand and tried to tried to hold the baseplate with the other, but obviously it went off a bit easier.
There is an adapter in there (not the actual name, small circular pressure plate <- not actual name... you'll know when you see it), make sure to check its not cracking. Could break apart into small parts if it ever does. I only know because mine had cracks everywhere that were about to meet...
Found my post on the "nipple" as i called it...

Thanks I’ll definitely be giving it a good inspection this evening when I get it off.

Do those 4 trans lines just pull out of the adapter after taking the plastic clips off? I’m a little hesitant I don’t want to break anything.

Thank you ZMann, my apologies for asking silly questions. Some of this information is hard to find until after the fact. I read about using the impact after it was too late unfortunately. I get the feeling I’ll be going through a few tough lessons being a newbie to the 6.0 and this truck. I try to do as much reading as possible when time allows.

I believe my adapter has all 4 the same lines with no clamps, regardless I need the disconnect tool. I’m hoping to find the right one today and get this adapter off so I can move on with my life 😁 it’ll be a sad day if I have to fill the trans up with this old filter just to drive it to a shop to take it off for me but it’s another option if I can’t get it I guess.

Thanks again

don't apologize it is not a silly question at all
I may have found the filter can from a 03/04 that may be barbed on half .. but you do need the tools to release the cooler lines
I leave some hanging from my lines just so I don't have to find them lol

Thanks for that, I found the aluminum scissor set along with the plastic ones. I’ll have to wait until Monday for them to open though, I can only find one supplier around who has them in stock. Watching a few videos it seems the aluminum set maybe the better buy. I may pick up both being they are pretty inexpensive.

Well, I have it all changed and fixed up now. Thanks for your help and input everyone.

Those oil lines popped right off with the proper tool and the old filter didn’t look too bad at all either. The lid came off pretty easily as well and after inspection the adapter body was fine too. I have a new lid on route, I plan to use this old one and just change the filter again in a couple weeks with the new lid.

I’m glad it’s done, here’s me moving on with life now 😂
