Had to buy an SCT X4 tuner after an EGR delete. I bought the truck a couple months ago and the EGR had been gutted so I did a proper EGR delete and was left with a CEL (P0403/P0405). When I went to get rid of the CEL with the SCT X4 tuner, found I had to apply a tune (to get rid of the EGR function) so put the 50hp tow tune on and got rid of the light. Doesn't seem to run much differently than before. There was an option for a 65hp tow tune... anybody experiment with these tow tunes and note a difference. Didn't select the jake brake option either. Only thing I really use the truck for is to tow my 10K lb. 5th wheel. Thoughts? I know that custom tunes are probably better than sliced bread just interested in the two tow tunes from the SCT X4 standard tune load (at this point). tia

I didn't care for the canned tunes in my X4 one bit none of the three.

Go with custom tunes for sure. I got PHP tunes and my hands down favorite is the 65HP Tow Tune. With 100HP FICM tune for good measure lol
Theres plenty of options avail others will chime in.

Asked about difference between 50 & 65 hp canned tune from an SCT X4. I am sure everyone has very valuable opinions about other tuners but that is not quite the question.... has anybody tried both the 50 and 65 hp tunes and what was the impression / performance difference or economy for that matter?

I fooled around with both 50 & 65 tow tunes. No difference I could recognize, I do NOT tow anything either. Since I am not studded, I decided to go with the mildest tune on the SCT (50hp). It seems to have the best mileage as well. My last trip was getting 18.5 mpg, in town I am 15mpg (all on the 50 hp tune).

cheers

I wasn’t a fan of the sct canned tow tunes. I may or may not get some heat for this, but for light towing I prefer the stock tune. I DD and tow with what I will call a custom stock tune. It’s just the stock file modified for my tire size and egr delete. It’s also the only tune I’ll let my son drive the truck with.

I towed my TT last week for the second time using the eco city tune and while my first tow was nice this last trip was different. it does give some weird downshifts and I also somewhat prefer the stock tune, granted the stock power sucks but it is nice to just mash the pedal on hills. So I would be inclined to argue in agreement with you.

As for the op question? I tried the canned “performance tunes” in the livewire and noticed very little difference from them to stock, so maybe tow tunes are similar in being slight/no difference?I realize you are asking about X4 but I am guessing X4 and livewire canned tunes are probably same same.
