Pretty much stock truck. Just use to pull 5th wheel and skidsteer on the mountain. What I hated about the stock transmission is no hold back whatsoever when going down the mountain. Any recommendations. I have been reading about several different places to buy from. Most threads I read were older.

If you’re looking to get another 4r100, BTS, John Woods, and Sam Wyse are the top 3 guys to go to for rebuilds.

Different tuning will keep your torque converter locked going down hills when towing and help you with the “hold back” issue

If you’re towing a lot, a bigger trans cooler on an auto is a must

There’s always a ZF6 swap if you’re sick of the auto

Thank you. I have read alot about Sam Wyse Stage 1. I just need a transmission that will give me some good mileage and some hold back on the mountain. We have a 6% grade for 16 miles. I currently do not have a tuner installed. Do you recommend a good tuner for towing?

Do not waste time with Jasper, Monster, or ATS, rebuilt motorcraft and stay away from Chuck Dorsey junk... Look into a BTS, John Woods or Sam wyse. Numerous members have posted their dealing with the mentioned companies and BTS, John Woods, and Sam Wyse have always made top qualtiy units just a little more money/time too.

If you put a Sam Wyse trans in your truck, nothing will be different with the “hold back” issue unless you change your tuning as well

I’d get a hydra chip with custom tunes from Jelibuilt Performance. I’m running his tunes with a sam wyse stage 1 trans, as well as big injectors. His trans tuning is spot on, you can’t go wrong

If your current transmission is still in good working order & you want to save money, you can still get a Hydra chip with Jelibuilt tunes and have your hold back issue addressed

If you are interested in one of Sam's transmissions, we are only 20min away from him and are his biggest dealer. I also have lots of Hydra chips in stock, and if you are interested in Jelibuilt tuning, that is typically who we use and is on our website. So essentially a one stop shop for you.
