I am thinking about buying a 2017 Ford F-350 Lariat 6.7 4X4 SWR with 59,850 miles. I have never owned a Ford product and would like to know what to expect as far as reliability and what type of maintenance that should be performed religiously(besides fluid changes and filters). I currently own a 12 Tundra with 210,000 and the most costly repair I have had is replacing the alternator.

Looking forward to the responses,

Chris

A 2017 6.7 with 60k, best motor ever produced. No religious ceremonies required. Change filters at recommended intervals and drain the water every 15k at a max interval. Diesels used to be a big learning curve but the 6.7 changed the game. No known big issues. Total workhorse. Insane power and reliability. Welcome.

I have a ’19. I prefer the 17-19 trucks. I bought it with 81k on the clock at the end of last summer and I’m at 87k now. When I bought it I got an extended warranty that covers me to 129k miles because I heard all the horror stories of the $15,000 fuel system repairs. The dealer I bought it from had just finished one of those on a truck for another guy actually.

What has been repaired so far on my truck:

  • Steering wheel buttons replaced
  • Engine oil pan leak repaired
  • BCM replaced and reprogrammed (my extended warranty saved my *** on this)
  • Lower intermediate steering shaft replaced

What I’ve done myself because I felt like it needed to be done:

  • Shocks and steering stabilizer replaced
  • Drag link and tie rod ends and track bar replaced
  • Transmission filter replaced, along with t-case fluid and both differentials drained/refilled. I retrofitted the 2017 trans pan onto my truck so I have a drain bolt now.
  • Primary thermostat replaced because I thought maybe that’s why it takes 3 business days for the truck to reach operating temp on a cold morning….it wasn’t.
  • Trailer wiring connection at the 7-pin needed to be disassembled and greased. It doesn’t work well with all trailers.
  • Both front doors sound like a haunted house when I open/close them. I’ve lubed the slides multiple times, the shrill noise always comes back. Sounds like a 40 year old truck door.

Overall I feel like the 17-19 is the best Super Duty ever for reliability. But I have to be honest, I’ve had 3 Ram trucks that were flawless for years. That will spoil a guy. For my next truck I’ll probably go back to Ram.
