Hello,

I was reading your post and I have the exact same issue that you were/are having with the PE022 code popping up. I have been at two different dealers myself now and have watched them replace most every part they can on the system. They are now wanting to replace NOX 12 and are of course wanting me to pay for it. My question is... did that actually fix the problem? I didn't see any posts after the post saying they wanted you to pay for the sensor and labor.

Thanks for any information,
Nick

Sort of..... The issue went away after the extensive tech reprogramming session. The issue that initiated the NOx replacement was different than all the previous issues. I suspect something was fixed with the $12k of warranty work the dealer performed, and the NOx sensor just later went bad.

That being said, there have been no additional issues 8000 miles later.

I did get mad at Ford and threatened to litigate, and agreed to pay for the NOx, but it almost came to "blows".

Depending upon your mileage, call Ford and yell at them about why a NOx sensor isn't considered part of the emissions system. They may pay for it if you quote the act and they think you are serious with litigation. (I had an attorney, and knew where to send the notice. Once they knew that - their attitude changed a bit). But up until then, Ford customer service was useless.

If that doesn't work, my suggestion: replace it yourself. They are a couple of hundred dollars. ($900 installed by a dealer of course). It's pretty easy, and it is a relatively inexpensive potential solution.

I have never had a vehicle where I was surprised every time I started it and nothing was wrong.....

The EPA may mandate this BS emissions stuff, but it's Ford's responsibility to produce a system that's reliable - or at least easily diagnosed - on an $80k vehicle.
Thank you for that detail.

I'm absolutely frustrated with this process and Ford's inability to engineer a product that functions properly, especially for the amount Ford charges for these trucks! I would think they would have it together, obviously not. Not only do I have to deal with the DEF system malfunctions, the EGR system malfunctions, the DPF system failing, I have to worry about the CP4 injection pump imploding at the slightest hint of bad diesel.

I have been a ford owner of some sort since 1984 and I'm now rethinking my position with their product.

Thanks again,
Nick
