To start, I have researched this on google with no luck. I was in a TSC yesterday snd saw the 5 gallon jug of Traveller 15W40 for $50. When i looked on the back for specs, I noticed that the F1 suffix was missing from the Ford spec, so it read WSS-M2C171 instead of WSS-M2C171-F1. So my question is pertaining to the F1 suffix. Until yesterday, I havent seen this Ford code anywhere without the F1 suffix, as I am always looking for it when checking oil sales and promos. My first assumption is that the base code is WSS-M2C171 which has certain specs, and the F1 is an even more specific code with different specs. So my question is this….since we know the code with the suffix F1 is approved for use in the 7.3, is the code without the suffix approved for the 7.3? Thanks in advance for the help guys

My question is for anyone that may know the significance of the suffix F1 in the Ford spec code. I dont want to start a thread about oil cost, preferred oil brands, etc. My question is not even specific to the Traveller brand, I just put that in the title because i have yet to see that code anywhere else without the F1 suffix. I am a very detailed person and i dont just like to know, i like to know how and why. Any knowledge of this would be appreciated

Yes i read that thread, but it doesnt discuss what exactly the F1 suffix designates. I have a call in to Traveller to see if they can clear this up, and I am awaiting a response. This could just be a misprint, and the F1 suffix was left off, but with Traveller changing manufacturers, its not worth the gamble. In the meantime, please chime in if you have further knowledge about this.

personal experience running it for 4k miles on my current 1999 7.3l before changing the oil early

Once i went to walmart and they were out of rotella and delo so I i ran that brand of 15w-40. (tractor supply right across the street) it is THICK in winter.... I also noticed a significantly more rattle at idle even when warmed up summer/winter. I went back to rotella and delo and perfect. That alone was enough to not justify the savings. Even rotella 15w-40 didn't have that bad of a notice in winter. For an old farm tractor and equipment I'm sure its not going to hurt anything but I never had an oil produce that much of a noticeable difference in sound in a 7.3l.
