Question About Cab-and-Chassis Trucks

So... my dad and I have an ongoing debate and have had it for a while now. For a while now I've been searching all over for trucks. Auction websites, marketplace, talking to people, and driving past places and slowing down. You name it, I've been trying. So far I've found one truck that I might be able to buy but my doing this sparked a discussion between my dad and I. What would I do with most of these trucks. More specifically the cab-and-chassis trucks I've been looking at closely. You can get them for decent prices in decent conditions with decent trim packages. Most of the time you either would have to take the bed off and find a new bed or just find a new bed. Long story short... My dad is hardcore set in his ways and thinks that CaC trucks frames are wider or different than.... let's say an F-450 of the same model, year, trim, wheelbase, and engine but with a regular bed as opposed to no bed or being a specialty bed of some sorts. I think the bed would fit but he doesn't. Does anyone have an answer for that or are we being pretty dumb? 😂

If so then I win cus all I gotta say is "It can be done so let's do it."
Your dad seems easier to convince than mine then lol. I'm 36 and partly in business with my dad and many of my "questionable" idea, which buying a C&C truck and fabricating the bed to fit would definitely qualify as questionable, get shot down pretty good. Or I ignore his advice/wisdom and go ahead anyways with lots of headaches lol.

you could extend a bed ,

I may be more inclined to manipulate the frame length
But that's less fun and less special. To me... the only reason I'd ever do any project is so it's special to me. Being special sometimes entails being different. And that is different. My dad and I have been designing a tractor for a while now and he just wanted to swap the hood and cab from one tractor to the frame, engine, and tracks of another tractor. I refused and now we're on the 16th theoretical model of our tractor made from 2 tractors. One day we'll build it and have one of a kind and have something special. It's all about having something be special and that's what special means to me. Long story short... I think making the bed longer would be cooler 😂

I miss the ideas and wonderment of youth lol. I'm following along for the ideas and excitement I have lost from being an adult. Keep it up kid, I got faith in ya.

Thanks lol. So far my current projects are my Powerstroke, my dads 76 Silverado that I need to get running, the Frankenstein tractor, and MAYBE another square body. The dude had said he was thinking about selling it so I'm just waiting to hear from him one day.

I still got my first truck sitting in the weeds behind one of our sheds that I have intended on fixing up for 15+years. It has some sentimental value also as I bought it off my Great-Grandpa. I know it needs a tranny and probably a few other things but like you it's mine and I want it back and in good shape lol.

Eventually you'll get there but keep in mind. It is yours and you can do whatever you want with it and no one can tell you otherwise 😂. But never blame yourself for letting it sit. Life happens ya know? Not everyone can do everything all at once.

Here's how I'm doing mine, its a '95 w/7.3 turbo diesel, it was a 'Cut-Away' not Cab & Chassis but probably the same thing, the 55gal gas tank is behind the rear axle, about a 160" wheel base. I started at the front bumper and working my way to the rear rebuilding the mechanicals and then I'll do the exterior and paint it to match the trailer I pull with it.

I bought it a year ago and have been steady rebuilding it. Its a lot of work but its worth it.
