I searched but never found the actual answer to this...how do you remove the satin panel on the platinum tailgate? Some trim removal tools and a steady hand? I wish there was a video out there of this being done.

There are like 50 clips holding it on. I've heard it's a major pita to remove and you have to pretty much break the clips to get it off.

If you remove it, it will look like this...

I looked at the back of one at work today and there looks to be 4 bolts that more than likely have nuts holding them on the tailgate side. The rest are clips. Either way you will probably want to leave it on.

Are you going to paint it or taking it somewhere? You can probably leave it on and mask around it.

Find a good tint/wrap guy and get it wrapped, I'm doing mine on the 23rd in a matte black vinyl.

I have a small dent in mine and I'm getting conflicting stories is it plastic or aluminum because I have a painless dent buddy and I want it removed or I am going to buy another one. If someone is going to paint theres and would be willing to do a little filler in a small dent I would trade. Just saying

Cmon now....the platinum tailgate is hideous...I have one myself and hate the thing with a passion

then trade it for a regular one? LOL

Platinum gate is awesome

vinyl wrap is a MUCH better idea than painting it. I'd imagine you'd cut your potential buyer pool down by about 99% when it comes to resale if you do that

I've seen platinums with black rear panels. looks like some highschool kid got a hold of a can plasti-dip to me

I'm Guna wrap mine in black vinyl this weekend, I'll post up a pic

Atleast in my findings, they don't make a regular tailgate for the white platinum color. Wish they did, I actually asked them.about painting it when I bought the thing and they told me at the dealership, it was Guna be like 1100 to paint it....kiss my grass!

I had my tint guy buy the thicker vinyl for my application, we'll see how she looks. But like it's been said, I'll just peel it off and go back to stock if it's not to my liking, it's a 75$ loss but hey...

lol, yes they do...

Platinum white metallic tri-coat. The color was introduced on the 2010 model and has been available ever since.

You can just put a regular pearl white lariat tailgate on it.

But I see zero wrong with doing the vinyl! at least it's temporary

2016 is the last year for platinum tri coat metallic white. Get it while you can

Cant vinyl or tint the panel. It needs painted. Nothing will lay and adhere to the tight angles that run across the mid top and mid bottom lines. I had 2 awesome.professionals try it with 3 differant materials.
