Parking brake wire or bypass

Got an Alpine ILX w650 headunit in, and can't access most of the settings unless the "parking brake" is engaged. I can't just ground it, tried that already. From what I'm reading, it needs to see 12-volt power first and then ground...maybe? I'm not sure what I'm doing, how could I just bypass this? I don't want to mess with the parking brake, I'm not planning on watching movies or something while driving lol

That greatly depends on if they expect the parking brake to be engaged when the engine is running or not.

If its mode is not dependent on engine-on, then it's easy with a relay.

ok, I bought some microrelay off ebay. It has four wires.
1. ground
2. ACC
3. parking brake wire to the stereo
4. foot brake pedal (not used on this unit).
So is there not supposed to be a 12 volt wire? Or does the relay take care of that when I flip whatever switch I hook to the ACC wire?

It may be to late for you but going forward get a raspberry pi or passively cooled celeron mini pc with a 7" diy touchscreen and make your own headunit. much cheaper and never lags also you basically have a touchscreen windows pc with wifi or 4g in the car at all times.

12 volt 5-10 amp regulator on the switching power supply and just get a low to high for your built in speaker wires and a low to high converter if you want an rca output to amps.
Use the switching as the amp trigger as well.
I am doing this with my current truck after i put the interior back together I was gonna make a thread to spread the idea

Man, I don't even use my existing factory audio in my cars ....... Well, I might turn it on when we have a major storm.

Loud music you like with bass that you feel in your chest makes every ride more enjoyable lol, when you're not in the mood just turn it off! you have excellent music taste from seeing your videos.
I think its a generational thing I noticed my elders can't stand loud music in the car

That's a sweet setup you have there Teter. Any issues powering that amp with your alternator? I'm already starting to look, and it looks like they sell one that just bolts to the back of my headunit. So far this alpine is pretty good for the price point. There isn't any lag and the screen doesn't feel like a cheap android screen, very responsive too.

Jack, that's the exact relay I bought after I saw that video. I'll see how it goes, just the way he explains it goes against anything I've ever known about normal relays...or I'm totally misunderstanding his explanation...either is likely.

Thank you Sir. Apple CarPlay and Sirius XM were a requirement. The amp is actually a flat powered sub. It adds a good bottom end for tight bass without overwhelming the listener. Bass drums can be felt in the seat back. Not a whole lot of low frequency though so count out Bone Thugs-n-Harmony or Scarface lol.

No issues powering as it doesn’t suck up much.

The bottom power port was toast anyway so I found a round usb/3.5mm audio kit that fit perfectly in the hole. Castle nut on back and both connections are made at the head unit behind the dash. Plug in for CarPlay. Works great/looks better than a broken 12v connection.

here’s one on Amazon but without the 3.5mm jack:BATIGE Single Port USB 3.0 Male to USB 3.0 Female Car Mount Flush Cable Waterproof for Car Truck Boat Motorcycle Dashboard Panel - 6ft https://a.co/d/2GBJsFA
