Oil fill neck delete?

Being that the oil fill neck or filler tube is notorious for leaking and or breaking for a variety of reasons, why can't we just have a cap instead? I've been scouring the internet for an "upgrade" or "replacement" and all I see is people selling a shiny anodized cap. I can't find in engine pictures either but I think the big plastic tube is horrendous looking and putting a shiny cap on top seems stupid. Is there a reason nobody makes a *****en cap that would just replace the whole neck itself and thread right into the valve cover?

It crossed my mind to just order one of these anodized caps and see if they would just thread right in but now I feel dumb for not just checking with my stock cap myself haha. I couldn't believe that I was unable to find anywhere on the internet with someone saying that the cap would just thread in. Thanks Turbo

Interesting - I've had my truck since August of '05. It now has 273K+ on it and my fillneck has never leaked. I'm a stickler for not having oil run down the side of the valve cover onto the exhaust manifold. I do use a retangular funnel so I can pour the oil in without spilling. Knock on wood, now that I've read this I hope I don't have leaks. HAHAHA

Wow you guys are lucky! For how much I find myself hunched over my engine bay needlessly tinkering with **** that I should probably just leave alone, that damn tube bugs the **** out of me. Idk if you guys have looked around at some of the anodized caps online but there's some pretty good lookin ones out there to match whatever you got going on. The mishimoto caps are really clean looking imo. Some dude on ebay makes a variety of cool super duty caps as well.

You are a rare voice for the oil fill neck leaks. Google has a way of exaggerating the amount of issues due to 99% are the complainers posting. You see way more bashing of a vehicle than boasting of its reliability. The 7.3l has WAY more potential to leak from the infamous turbo pedestal o ring, EBPV leaks, oil rail plugs, hpop end fittings/o rings in the connection between the hose/end fittings. Then the fuel leaks-Fuel bowl drain valve, FPR, failed viton seals etc.

I've helped a dozen of so friends and people replace the fuel bowl drain valve o rings for fuel and the turbo pedestal o ring for oil and not one oil fill neck lol. Not saying it doesn't happen but it would appear its more more rare than Google would lead one to beleive. Similar with Dodge Cummins with the "infamous 53-block" Google would lead one to conclude its a super common and disastrous situation and to avod dodge. Yet the 53 stamp block is so rare it hasn't tarnished its name since being exposed.
