04 Excursion 6.0 with new factory long block 32K miles, Original Stock Exhaust. Looking to get a better sound than the original exhaust. I brought the truck to my Diesel Repair shop for advise. They said to keep OME Muffler and take out the honeycomb in the Cat, that will give me a better sound and not effect the factor tune, is this true??. Second question, since the Exhaust is 18 years old, would it be better to replace the complete exhaust and if so, what would be a good system that would give me a better sound without needing a new tune. Thank you.

I'm not sure what your shop is telling you in regards to it affecting the factory tune. Maybe he's talking about backpressure. In which case the exhaust after the turbo has little to no effect on exhaust backpressure on a 6.0. Your VGT vanes do. I have a 5 inch straight pipe and no tunes and I've been fine.
To your second question, a 6.0 doesn't need one of those fancy mufflers to sound "good" like all the gassers out there. I personally think the best size is a stock size down pipe into a 5 inch exhaust, to whatever size tip you want. But remember, pipe is pipe.

It doesn't have to be 5 inches. You probably won't notice a difference between 4 and 5. I'm just compensating LOL. Look up some videos on youtube of a 6.0 without a muffle and cat and see if you like it.
