I've been changing all the original parts out in my 2002 F350 7.3 before they go bad and leave me stranded....getting ready to do the alternator- normally I ALWAYS use Motorcraft parts....but noticed that some people highly recommend other name brands, being NEW as opposed to remanned- I only tow campers and trailers....no heavy duty lights or upgrades....looking to install the best choice alternator that will give me great performance and a LONG, long life like this original OEM alternator has.....should I stick with Motorcraft.....or is another name a better choice?? Thanks for the input!!

The factory wiring can handle the 135/140a Bosch alternator without problems. Ford's sizing has worked for up to 180a alternators as long as the continuous current flow is not at the max for long periods. And the only way to do that would be a winch or very, very high amp sound system.
I've often recommended that NEW Bosch unit for the 7.3L and 6.0L. On occasion, they can have an early issue, but it's not a high percentage. In the online world, two failures out of a thousand are a crisis. They definitely have a great warranty when you buy through the right sources. Like all products, the manufacturer can get hard-nosed when something is bought through a non-authorized retailer.
