Hey all, I'm in the middle of some PM during my AC R&R after finding a refrigerant leak and early signs of compressor failure.
I'm cleaning the turbo, ridding of the STC fitting, new standpipes and dummy plugs, turbo drain and feed lines, and CAC boots. My turbo has been squeaking after start up when the oil pressure hits the VGT. The unison ring was pretty stuck to the actuator side of the turbo but the monster actuator was still able to operate it. I was dealing the vanes sticking after a hard acceleration so I knew it was about time to clean the thing.
I'm at 111k miles and was wondering how my unison ring is holding up compared to those with around the same miles that have had theirs apart. The slots aren't perfectly straight even on new ones, so what looks work is actually there by design on the vane slots. The actuator eccentric is what seems to wear on these, and obviously cracks do them in too. Mine has a little bit of wear at the actuator eccentric but it really doesn't seem too bad. I think if I would have driven it for an extended period with the ring sticking the eccentric would wear bad.
