I know there have already been a few online reviews, and lots of rumors, but we wanted to make an official post about our newest turbo for the 6.0 powerstroke platform.

We have been working on this project for years, the first Dual ball bearing drop in VGT turbo for the 6.0 powerstroke. We decided to base it off of our already super popular KC stage 2 journal bearing turbo. We had to make a few tweaks but it is almost the same turbo, with a few tweaks and converted to be a dual ball bearing turbo. We will not be sharing all the exact specs, we are trying to slow down the copy cats. It looks just like our normal KC stage 2 on the outside

The results have been truly astounding. All testers and customers reported the same thing. WOW!!!!

This is the FASTEST spooling and most powerful stage 2 vgt on the market. Nothing else even comes close. We have had testers/customers come from our KC stage 2, other competitors stage 2, S362 and S363... They all reported the same thing. This turbo spools faster and makes more power than anything else in its class. All customers reported the same thing.

TURBO LAG IS GONE!
EGTs down about 100-200 degrees
Way less smoke in every situation
Very smooth power
1-2 mpg increase
GREAT POWER!

It is hard to describe how quick this turbo spools... but some customers reported that it makes the truck feel like a gas truck with instant power down low. Others described that switching to the new stage 2r reminded them of the first time they loaded up a race tune on their stock injectors/turbo truck and how incredible it felt. It really is awesome.

Here is a direct comparison of our popular KC stage 2 vs New KC stage 2r dual ball bearing VGT turbo. There is a dyno graph below but you can see it makes more power all throughout the RPM band... but the power increase down low is INCREDIBLE.

This test was done with 205/30
At 2500rpms
Tq increased 166 ft/lbs of tq
HP increased by 80hp

Not only does the new stage 2r turbo spool faster than anything else on the market... it is putting down power like a typical stage 3 turbo.

Our dyno numbers during testing showed the turbo was capable of an easy 600-650hp. We were also lucky enough to have some testers that put the turbo to the test at the track and back up those numbers.

Ian Gebbia with Ian's Truck shop put down some impressive track numbers and killing some new mustangs.
Pushing 650hp at the track 7.8 @ 89mph which translates to a 12.3 @ 110mph

This turbo is also a TOW MONSTER. There is no loss in towing abilities with this turbo like you get with some other types of bigger turbos. This turbo will tow better than any other stage 2 on the market. This turbo spools so fast and runs so cool that it has no problems towing max weight even with larger injectors.

I will bet you know this question would come up , can you retrofit fairly fresh KC stage 2's ? Will there be any exchange allowance for
good shape turbo's . I realize that you can't be rifling thru every junk core coming in but I'm only talking existing KC stage 2 customers .

That is a very good question. Sadly the answer is... we will only build building these turbo from BRAND NEW for the time being. No reman or retrofit options. It is a very long lengthy process to get the turbos made. Believe it or not but to get all the turbos ready that we are selling right now... we had to start building them in December. We started from Brand new Garrett cores, which have to get machined/modified by multiple people along the way, and then get sent back to us for final assembly.

We actually don't do any reman services right now... I hope to be able to hire a few more good guys and get them trained so we can start offering reman and retrofit options by the end of this year. There is less profit margin in a brand new turbo but we can crank them out faster.

We have been overwhelmed with people wanting to trade in their turbos (powermax, KC, etc)... but you would be better offing selling it on your own and putting the money towards a new turbo.

So would tune need to be adjusted coming from a kc 1.5 to the ball bearing stage 2?

Until 2 weeks back I ran the stock Ford intake and everything worked great, but even with a new filter I could get the minder right on the edge of yellow and red. Now I run the No Limit with the pro guard 7 and somehow gained 5 psi of boost. Run what you have and see if your filter minder light comes on or if you suck it in close to red. If you do consider changing it, if not run your stock till you need a 50 dollar replacement filter then get a new if you chose.

Yes it will definitely be worth it  I absolutely love mine :scuffy.

I was curious what it would do a couple days ago since I haven't had the chance to just stand on it from a dead stop before. Even without boosting the launch, she rolled maybe 5 feet before the tires started smoking and left 50 of tire marks from both tires before let off....the best part about this turbo can be seen on the dyno charts on page 1. The increase in peak power is great sure, but the meat and potatoes of this upgrade is the increase in power the whole way up to peak, giving you more area under the curve. This makes more power in the revs that you usually drive in everyday, not just the WOT gangbusters at the track.

Can't wait to get one on the EX. Going to have a low mile normal stage 2 available soon.

I'd like to see a dyno graph between a stock turbo vs stage 2r stock injectors

This is next on my list. I've been drooling over this turbo. Most likely will replace all boots under the hood at the same time.

Can we expect this setup to transition into the other turbo lines? for example the Stage 3 setup?

#33 ·
We are working on it... but it might not work on the stage 3. If a turbo spools too fast then it will get turbo surge. The stage 3 is already pushing the limits even as it is now. Making it spool even faster will make it even more prone to surge. We could tweak the turbine wheel to slow it down and help it to spool slower... but that would defeat the purpose.

I plan to purchase the stage 2r. I have stock injectors and don't plan on upgrading the injectors. Ive been studded and deleted for 50 or 60,000 miles while running gearhead tunes with no problems. I do use my truck for towing. I assuming i would need to get my tunes tweaked from a stock turbo to the KC stage 2r. From my readings the turbo will drop in with no other modifications other than possible upgraded tunes. Also trying to open my mind up on possible other tuners out there but gearhead tunes have been on money for me.

Ive read something about the filter minder problems. Would this be an issue in a mostly stock setup?
