Information on 6.4L Crate Engine

Hey. After 250K miles, my 6.4L died. I deleted/studded the engine after 93K miles and aside from radiator replacements, didn't have any major problems until it died.

Because the truck isn't worth much as it sits, replacing the truck will set me back about $70K, and the fact that I just love my truck, I have decided to replace the engine with a Crate Engine from Ford that I can pick up for around $13k plus core.

The crate engine comes with TTY head bolts. I don't plan on super-tuning the crate engine but I will be loading it often with a trailer and don't plan to "baby" her. In addition to the delete, should I go ahead and stud this engine also before I drop it in or are these bolts satisfactory?

Also, is there any thing else I should do with this engine before I drop it in?

Thanks so much!

The engine is coming from my LFD and I know the Parts guys well. not sure about the core charge yet.

Yes the engine will have a warranty but I'm planning on not having a DPF or EGR on the engine once I put it in so I'm pretty sure they aren't going to honor the warranty anyway. I'm doing the install myself (I have a shop, a lift, etc).

I'm just basically wondering if I am not going to have any "hot" tuning on the engine, do I really need to pull this "drop-in-engine" apart to Stud It?

I'm counting on this engine being as good as my original one because it's from Ford. Maybe I'm counting on too much?

EDIT: A Long-Block from a reputable engine place is going to set me back about $16K, then I have to put new injectors, Turbo, manifolds, etc on it. That's pushing me toward the FMC crate engine.

That crate motor from Ford should be available with ARP studs now as an option to the TTY head bolts, I'll see if I can find a Part Number for you on Monday

Thank you all for your help. I have looked at rebuilt long blocks from ashville but by the time I get everything put together, I'm looking close to $25k. I love my truck but at that cost, I would almost be better off to get a new truck. The guy at my LFD said the same about getting a ford crate already studded also. Makes me wonder why they would even sell the TTY anymore?

The 6.4 really doesn't have issues with head gaskets like the 6.0 unless you run higher hp tunes. The problem with the 6.4 is the valve train and pistons (and emissions).
