IDP SCT Street Tune help...

I am a little disappointed, but I am sure it can be explained.

I recently purchased a SCT X3 from IDP and along followed Eric's Econo, Street and Tow tunes.

I uploaded the Street tune first and went on some errands. Well, I am either a little confused or disappointed. First off the power is great and that is not my complaint. When normally accelerating from a stop there is your typical turbo lag, which is understandable, but then all of the sudden the power comes in and just about snaps your head back making it very difficult to drive around town in traffic. Actually, it is not difficult it is pretty much un-streetable. There is the lack of smoothness that I thought would come with the tune. If you slightly let off the accelerator, to counter act the excessive acceleration, the truck falls on it's face. What I am saying is the amount of throttle that is inputted compared to how the truck accelerates seems to be terribly off. It is either all or nothing with the accelerator.

If you can modulate the throttle, which by the way is very difficult, the shifting is horrendous. The shifting is really firm, fine, but once it shifts from 1st to 2nd it then proceeds shift through 3rd to 4th in a matter of seconds and bangs through them very hard and fast.

I am basically asking for help and if this is common with this tune or if anyone is experiencing the same feeling.

A lot of people say they run the Street or Xtreme Street as their daily drivers so it is hard for me to think this is the way the tune should act.

i got the xtreme street about a month ago and its been on ever since..

about the acceleration in town, mine is totally normal..you should email eric and tell him, cause im pretty sure its not supposed to be like that..

mine shifts pretty good..not to hard not to soft..i like it for everything i use it for..sorry you dont like it, but innovative will make it right

first off... i don't know about the street tune i run the extreme all the time no problems... but my thing is.. you gotta give the truck some miles to learn the tune.. you can't just upload it then expect it to be smooth off the bat... you seem to be having a lil more than that.. so my suggestion is get at least 100+ miles on the tune and see if it still does it.. if it does then contact eric...

I am experiencing the same thing. I loaded the IDP street tune 2 days ago. I understand maybe after a few hundred miles the truck will learn the tune, and i will learn how to drive it. My biggest problem is the truck seems to hesitate for a split second before shifting into 3rd gear, then when it does shift it is a little firmer than the other shifts? Have you experienced this?

Similar to what you are experiencing. The thing is others who have the Xtreme Street are not having this problem. I can only assume the Xtreme Street would be just as bad if not worse, but no one is having this problem with the extra sensitive throttle and over exaggerated acceleration. This is leading me to believe that maybe the tunes has a bug in it.

Look, I am not condemning Eric's tunes here. I know he produces a great product, but since I have never ran these tunes before I was just wondering if the behavior of the truck is normal.

I tried running the canned "street" tuning for as long as I could stand it a couple of times. While the mileage was excellent (on the order of 2+mpg over what I get on the extreme street), the shifting, as you describe, was horrendous. I left the canned street tune on for almost 1000 miles the first time hoping eventually the tranny would learn it but it never got any better. The second go-around I tried it for about 500 miles with the same result. Eventually just took it off the programmer.

Don't be afraid to try the extreme street based on the canned street tune. It shifts smooth as silk, the power is excellent and mileage is much better than stock. It normally only takes no more than 4-5 stop / start cycles for the tranny to learn this tune. It's worth EVERY penny Erik charges for it.

I did the same thing last night. Got the Street tune and drove it about 40 miles so far. It shifts pretty hard, and is very sensitive to the throttle. Just a little bit and it wants to goooooo!
I figured it's supposed to be a street/race tune, and the economy is meant for daily driving anyways.

Call Eric and discuss it. I havent run any of his base tunes with the exception of tow. But run his Extreme tunes daily and have for a year and a half

I have sent an email last night and have yet to heard back from him. Basically sent what I posted here to Eric at IDP

Is your tune set to have the TQ converter locked up?
I installed the tune with out any changes.

There is a relearn process for the transmission and thats probably what your dealing with. I cant remember exactly how the process goes, but it doesnt learn it completely in 2mins. Accleration to 35 normal driving, same to 45, and highway speeds, like I said not 100 percent sure what it is but it is there.
I am not too terribly concerned with the tranny. I mentioned it shifts hard, but my main concern is the overly aggressive acceleration with a given throttle input. Combined with the aggressive acceleration and the tranny shifting is really harsh.

Okay I just ran my Innovative tunes today and decided I needed to post my thoughts on everyones tunes here's the order of best to least best!
1) Innovative tunes by Eric
These are so far my favorites smoothest trans shifting hands down with great power worth every penny I can't believe how smooth these tunes are I can so far only comment on the Extreme Street have the other extreme tunes just haven't had time to run them yet! The Street is so smooth this is the only tune that when shutting the cruise off my truck doesn't jump!

Travis

When I read stuff like this it makes me think that the Street tune I have might just have a bug in it.

This was taken from another thread regarding other tunes by other manufactures.

Calkidd- I agree with you. From what everyone else is saying there is no way I have the same street tune. Mine is far from "smooth". I believe we got our tunes around the same time too, mine were emailed to me this past Sat morning.

I just couldn't take it anymore. The Street tune was so abrupt during acceleration it was dangerous on wet streets. The power delievery wasn't smooth what so ever and the power control was making driving the truck a chore. The smoke this tune produced under simple acceleration was unacceptable.

There has to be a tune out there that delievers just as much power, but delievered more evenly over most of the power range.

did you not get your tune back? or did and it is still doing it?

assuming you got the tune back and it's still doing it... did you by chance send eric the wrong strategy or possible mistyped a number or letter.... or possibly ran the strategy with another chipped hooked up... i don't know if that happened or not but if you're still having problems after getting it back then something is obviously wrong.... I hate to hear that for ya man... maybe try a different tune and see if you still have the problems... try Tadd at Elite or Matt at Gearhead.. I have heard their tunes are pretty good.. im about to purchase one from Matt....

Sometimes certian tunes just act funny on certian trucks. I just got one of Matt's tunes and I have to say that his and Tadds tunes have the smoothest trans tuning. I have the insanity on one truck and Matts on another and I think the insanity tuned truck is a little better but when I had an Insanity tune on the truck I have Matts Street Race Lite on it was not as good as Matts. So it may just be the way that tune is working with your truck, they all seem to be a little different. Oh and Tadds High Power is like a stock truck with tons of extra power it is amazingly smooth and deceptively fast. It just doesn't have the all out balls that I like.

^^^ yeah that is very true... you might just be one of the unlucky ones... the worst part is you're out the money you paid for the tune... and you'll have to pay for the other tunes... i don't know what tadd charges but matt is only 50 for a single tune...

Yeah a single tune is 50$ but each additional tune is 25$, I think this is common practice among tuners.Even Eric gives better prices based on the number of tunes you buy at one time.

Talked to Cale from BTS on the phone one day about the torqueshift shifting and why it hesitates shifting to 3rd and he explained that 1-2 has a clutch that introduces it and 2-3 does not so the motor cuts power to introduce it to reduce wear. 3-4 has a clutch as well so the shift happens very quick and smooth. As far as smoothness of the tunes all my IDP tunes have the powerband feel that you are talking about, I kinda like it thou.

Thanks for all the input you all have given me. I am going to look for another tune and see if it will work better. I have nothing against Eric, but for some reason this tune is just not working for me. Just so that we are not confused, it is not a transmission problem I am having.

And yes I had another tune sent to me, but it wasn't much of a change.

Do you have a link for Tadd and Matt?

Im running is SRL tune... I think its called Street Race Lite but not positive on that part.... it's a good mix between eric's xtreme street and xtreme race... at WOT on matt's tune the torque converter locks from 2nd up..... but when you're not in the throttle (what I would call normal driving) the shifting is amazing.. you can't even tell that you have close to 150 extra horses under the hood the shifting feels stock.... he is a great guy to do busy with too.... I haven't tried Tadd yet but have heard his tunes are very nice as well....
