I bought a truck from a local guy. He had a list of the work he’d done.
KC turbo
Intake
Injectors
Tranny
Bullet proofed
Started leaking when I got her home so I took it to our local diesel mech jbj diesel.
He reported that I had a cracked valve cover all the parts and labor 1250!

LaborCorrection:
Engine / Lubrication / PULLED UNIT IN THE SHOP AND CHECKED FOR OIL LEAKS AND FOUND IT WAS LEAKING AT THE DRIVER SIDE VALVE COVER. THE BLOW BY HOSE HAD THE WRONG O RING ON IT. CHANGED THAT WITH THE PROPER UNIT AND PUT A LITTLE SILICONE TO MAKE IT SEAL UP. FIRED UP TRUCK AND IT PUMPED OIL OUT OF IT. PULLED IT BACK OFF AND THE CENTER OF THE VALVE COVER IS CRACKED. UNIT WILL NEED A NEW VALVE COVER TO FIX UNIT PROPERLY. ALSO SAW THE FICM BRACKET WAS MISSING THE MOUNTING HARDWARE. ALSO NOTICED UNIT IS POPPING THE INTAKE PRETTY BACK UNIT HAD A VALVE TRAIN ISSUE GOING ON. THIS IS THE CAUSE OF THE EXCESSIVE BLOW BY.

Basically had a bunch of shotty work done. Claimed it to be bullet proofed so I’ll know for sure if it is.

You can check the head bolts to see if its got studs or the oem tty bolts. People forget the prices are up... You know longer pay a nickle for a candy bar these days. Most diesel shops charge $180+ per hour minimum in my area and that just keeps their heat on. Its never a bad idea to just politely ask if they are willing to price match or work with you but most times diesel techs are booked so they offer their price and if you cant then pull out the credit card or learn yourself.

I was not expecting the valve cover to crack. However, considering the wrong o-ring, I wonder if someone took a hammer to it.

Like the oil pan, the valve covers are a bonded three-layer construction, the center being a noise-dampening membrane. Probably these are stamped by MSC,

A person I used to work with (different department) is now a VP there. We would use this material as noise insulators and the back of brake pads.

The more significant issue is the intake pop-back, cam/lifter potential.

Cleaning the engine bay and underneath the truck is just as important, or more so than taking care of the paint

Wow....

But on the engine bay.
Monthly checks (at least monthly), fluids, filters, battery. Then detergent bath and fresh water rinse entire engine bay to include a good battery cleaning.

@Jimmy's Pilot Service -- Monthly, ...have you seen some of the battery cable pictures posted? ...not sure some even check the oil between changes ..rofl
