How to test ICP?

Is there a definitive way to tell if ICP is bad?
I have read and searched the site but have not found the right thread.
I pulled my ICP and yes there was oil in it.
There was no oil in the Electrical plug.
Can I OHM it?
What should I be looking for?

First, there is no problem with Oil in electrical connectors (just a lot of ignorant posters regurgitating that false impression that oil in the connector is, in itself, a problem rather than a simple indication of oil passing through the ICP internal seals and indicating it's failing)

Next, if the ICP is unplugged the PCM sets a default value for the IPR to run with so you can often find an improvement in running by simply unplugging a bad one (the default value isn't as good and the genuine one but if the ICP is giving real wacky info the default can be better).

Finally, you really need to have some sort tool to monitor your sensors. Seeing what the ICP is telling the PCM what the HPOP pressure is can tell you if it's out-of-line and you can make the call yourself ;)

I couldn't agree more. If oil in an electrical connector was a problem, there damn sure wouldn't be 18 of them under the valve covers.

What are the symptoms that make you question the ICP sensor? Do you have a decent scan tool, such as ForScan?

Thank you this clears up alot for me.
I do have forscan but the pc I have it on doestnt have blutooth so it doesnt connect to my adapter. But I do have car gauge pro. if that will give me pressures. I did a buzz test with it earlier on my injectors and a few sounded a little weak. I also found a small leak on the drivers side top fuel line going to the filter housing. I dont know what its called but I am going to replace it as the threads are showing some stripping. Do any of you know what that line is?

At the top of the filter housing, on the dr side, is the FPR (Fuel Pressure Regulator) AND a small rubber "bushing" (looks like a short piece of hose) that seals the line and called a Parker Seal. All-to-often somebody wrenches the fitting on the FPR in hopes of stopping that seal from leaking. I hope that's not what you have by describing "stripped threads" :(

Anyway, replace the Parker Seal there and see if it helps, if the threads are actually damaged it's a whole new can of worms....

Take a look at dieselorings web site. I believe they sell the FPR housing, poppet and all that. Otherwise, it's probably gonna be a dealer item. For reference, the Parker part number for the Vibralok sleeve is 60VLV-5. The supply line to the filter housing uses 60VLV-6, and the lines to the heads use 60VLV-4.

You misunderstood what he meant.

He meant that the connector is fine if oil went through the icp sensor. The icp sensor still needs replacing but it's wire connector is fine.

I understood what he was saying. And to add to it I did ordered the part from diesel o rings. 60 bucks shipped with everything needed.
Thanks again you are all appreciated by me and many others. I live pretty far out from a shop or a decent mechanic and this is my go to place for advice and information.
