My dually has a sticking injector, anybody use the hotshot stiction eliminator with good results? Truck runs good otherwise, once warm and that injector 'kicks in' once you get a good WOT.

Feedback please... I'm due for an oil change, now would be a good time to go for it.

Archoil 9100

Don't bother trying hot shots

I honestly dont know anyone who has tried hotshots with any luck. It seems to be a more hit or miss kind of product. Archoil is more of a always hits product. I ordered some today as a matter of fact. My last oil change, I was having stiction issues and I tried Lucas for powerstrokes. It has been the worst product I have tried. To date, Archoil has been the best thing for it. I even have a video testimonial on their site. Its worth the look.

I have a buddy who put the Archoil AR9100 in his 02, night and day difference. not plugged in at 12° it starts like it's 60°. His words, not mine. He did take some videos, but, I don't have them. I believe he switched to 5W40 T6 at the same time. His truck used to have issues at 30° unless it was plugged in. I have no experience with Hot Shots though.

Product a= great reviews from all who have used it.

product b=has as many bad reviews as good if not more but has a money back guarantee.

Just another way of looking at it.

I have seen success stories online, I personally know of none, and we all have tried it, but there is nothing ive tried as good as Archoil(never tried Rev-X)

Just for grins I went to Amazon and looked it up. Looking at the 1 star replies, it looks like this can cause issues where they weren't before. Lot of posts about developing injector fails after adding the treatment. I'm going out on a limb here and guessing the injector was running on a wing and a prayer and cleaning out the injector just made it happen faster.

Thanks for the response. I will look into the archoil... thanks for the heads up. Is it avaliable in stores, where should I look other than their website?

I believe they have a vendor list on there website. A where to buy or something. That's how I found it at my local diesel shop...

If you order it directly, with shipping, it's about the same cost as the hotshots with tax at my local tractor supply store. Just sent the wife and link, hope she will take care of ordering it for me.

For what it's worth, I had great success with the HotShotts. When I bought my truck with 212,000 miles, it had one cylinder that, as my dad described it, "sounds like it's fighting itself" until it warmed up. Next oil change (dino), I threw in the HotShotts and ran a couple of tanks of diesel with their fuel additive. It wasn't an immediate change, since the product had to work it's way into the injector and then go about breaking down and flushing out whatever was causing the stiction. That being said, a year later when my dad rode in my truck again, he was amazed at how much better it sounded and ran. It was a gradual change, so I didn't notice it getting slightly better and slightly better. But when he said that, I remembered how bad it really had been and what an improvement it really did make. Take it for what it's worth, but it worked well for me.

That may be the difference. Archoil is a noticeable change within 100 miles.

Yea, I just changed my oil last week, put archoil in monday, Drove 40 miles to home and shut it down. The next morning when I fired up, was a night and day difference. This morning too. 45 Degrees and she fired off and purred like a kitten...A really bad a$$ kitten,

Ordered some archoil last week. Will try it next oil change.

After 5000 miles, I'm certainly happy with Archoil oil and fuel additives. City and high-grade% hills and not one issue. Also, milage went from 17 to 20 but we did the up-pipes, turbo wheel and boot kit and I know that helped too.

Did my oil change after work today... I'm afraid the drain plug is about stripped out, it it didn't tighten up like it should, and I quit trying before it was too late. New oil, filter, and the 16oz bottle of archoil went in... will see if it makes a difference tomorrow evening after work, when the truck has sat all day and gotten as cold as it will get.

After putting 20 miles on it, there was a noticeable difference when I drove home from work today. Previously it would take 3 to 4 miles of in town, WOT from every red-light to get the sticking injector(s) to clear up and run smoothly. Today, it was running smoothly within 5 minutes, and 1/4 mile from work.

When I ran it my last interval I noticed the oil pressure was more stable at start up and after a hard run. It returned to smooth idle much quicker.

My injectors are pretty noisy when cold. I think it's mostly the #8 that's pissed off lol. But they aren't new by any means

Is the Archoil something you run in every oil change or just periodically?

I purchased HSS and had intended on putting it in on the next oil change but after further reading and research, it looks like the Archoil is the better route. I'll probably run this through some farm/construction equipment as well. Great info!

Not to take this thread off topic but after visiting the Archoil site, I see they offer fuel additives as well. Is there anyone that is running this stuff through their tanks with more confidence or success than the Opti-Lube XPD? I am running XPD in my 7.3 currently and also some John Deere equipment for lubricity and other treatment characteristics.

I did run it every other, but my oil was changed every 3k....now I'm on a 15k interval and use it every change.

Any updates? My #3 Is pissed off and I have some HSS coming tomorrow with dome Delvac 1 full synthetic oil.

I just drained an oil change with HSS. It reduced stiction (in my 6.0), but did eliminate it like the guarantee says. I mailed in the money back request, they called and I explained the scenario and they offered either another bottle or my money back. I just went money back route, check arrive back in about a week. Great guys I talked with but didn't eliminate my stiction issue. YMMV of course.

Your sticking injector is due to low armature clearance as the poppet valve has worn into the lower seat. The cold oil makes the armature stick to the body top. Once it warms up and or a hard pull they will operate again. This is mechanical wear. Although you can bandaid the situation with additives or shims you will eventually need to address the worn injector(s). If not addressed the problem will get worse and the injector can eventually fail to fire hot or cold. A cold buzz test can help you figure out which injector(s) are worn. You can also use a feeler Gauge. Another cool trick is multiple buzz tests Cold will free a sticky armature.

The Archoil made a difference in my dually, but never cleared it up all the way. I put some in my F250 recently, when I swapped motors, so no grounds for comparison.

I think it makes an improvement but not a magic cure-all instantly fixes every injector issue type thing.

I did research on both and went with Hotshots about 2 years ago. I had number 6 and 8 barily squirting oil when I did glow plugs on my 96. After one treatment of Hotshots both injectors were squirting oil much better. In fact all the injectors were doing much better. I've been using it ever since. I even tried their motor oil and it has smother out my idle and improved mpg from 17 to about 19.5. The old girl starts right up and has never been plugged in since. I was a bit concerned that first winter at 5 or 6 degrees outside but she craned right up after letting the glow plugs heat for one minute.
