High(?) oil temp and normal coolant temp

Good news is since you have an EGR delete the delta isn't as important which means as long as you don't tow too heavy you have time before you need to change it again. Also if you don't have a coolant filter add one and do a flush, once you stop getting junk in the filter install the new OEM oil cooler.

Sweet thanks everyone for the input. I am getting a XDP coolant filter tomorrow and going to flush the coolant and back flush it and throw that ELC coolant everyone is talking about.

Does anyone know what problems could occur running the truck with 215 degree oil temp if the EGR is already deleted? I was planning on doing a 500 mile trip and I'm strongly reconsidering it.
The ideal oil temp is 210F and I wouldn't worry till the oil gets over 235F. The oil temperature does not affect the EGR, the oil temperature delta lets you know the EGR is being starved of coolant from a clogged oil cooler. Since you're deleted the 15F oil coolant delta isn't as important.

What problems would start happening if I drove the truck with oil temps upward of 230? Im curious to how bad this problem actually is. Will Injectors, turbo, etc start to have problems?
1. You'll need to change your oil more often
2. The oil weight changes based temperature
3. I think 280F is when stuff starts to melt (oil pan is hotter than the oil temperature reading location)
4. I'm sure more stuff will happen and other people will chime in

Now many people drive around with clogged coolers and those with an EGR or monitor probably don't know it. People who tow heavy in the mountains also push the oil temperature even with a working cooler because of all the extra heat to tow the load.

Like I said earlier since you don't have an EGR it's not a big problem yet, so you have time to get all your ducks in a row.

Thanks everyone for the input. I just changed the oil with rotella t6 and Motorcraft filter on Saturday. I'm installing a coolant filter tonight and running it to see if that makes a difference. I've only managed to get it up to 220 going uphill at 65 so far but it quickly goes down to the 210-216 range fast after I get off of it.

I looked at the temps this morning and the oil temp and coolant temp were within 2 degrees of each other. So I'm almost sure it's not the sensor at this point.

I'll be posting if the coolant filter makes a difference. If not I'll be trying to back flush and give the truck some nice coolant.

All else fails an oil cooler receipt is defiantly coming my way. But it's ok do drive long distances (500 miles) with the oil temp at around 210-220?

Thank you again everyone.
A coolant filter won't make a difference for a clogged cooler but a backflush might. However if you filter out most of the junk it will exponentially extend the life of the next OEM cooler as long as change the filter regularly.
