Headgasket Repair Cost?

So our 06 needs new headgaskets. Local diesel shop quoted around 6k to do it and it would be bulletproofed. 6K seems a bit steep to me but I figured I would ask.

Located in eastern nebraska so I anyone has a shop they recommend!

Thanks

I'd be interested as well. I just got an 04 Excursion and was quoted $5,800 by a local and very highly reviewed local shop to do headgaskets and studs. They would clean and deck the heads as well, but most of the older posts that I find seem to show that this is way higher than it should be.

THanks

The "FULL" bulletproof (egr cooler, air to oil HD cooler, water pump, 7.3 fan and adapter and aluminum radiator) is close to 4k just for parts. Then you are talking about install $$$ if you don't do it yourself.

Then factor in head gaskets, studs and machining hope your heads are good which is 50/50. The labor alone is more than parts "if" your heads are salvageable with machining.

If not then another 1500-2100 for heads.

Easily 10-12k if someone does it for you including all I mentioned. Then you hope it isn't a hack job.

Like Joe Blow said, there should be a range in the quote, depending on what the heads need. There's other stuff too, like if it's already studded and the studs can be reused? has the turbo feed been update? Stand pipe, dummy plugs, STC fitting? Turbo reconditioned? Without good records from the PO, a lot of that you won't know unless it's apart.
