If so, how much did it cost you and what was the circumstances that got you busted?

I don't know anybody who has but wondering if anybody on here has or knows somebody who has and what the details were.

I know of a couple of local cases. In each case they were "Coal Rollers/Douch bag" trucks and they set up the truck to dump soot really bad.

These dipwads would drive around town looking to harass people and dump soot at them. Cops got into it and got them busted. It was starting to become a fad with the local guys. The local cops threatened to go after every single one and fine the crap out of them.

Needless to say that stupid crap stopped real fast.

My nephew ( Diesel Brothers TV show on Discovery) gave a truck away in one of his contest that had been deleted.
The fellow who won it, Couldn't afford the taxes and tried to sell the truck to get enough money to pay the taxes.
The state he was in would not let him sell the truck with out it's emissions. So it put the kid in a real bind, No money for taxes and couldn't sell or trade the truck with out spending money to return the emission.

I know here locally the TV station have had news stories about trucks blowing black smoke and shown the state numbers to call to report offenders.
And of course, I would have to have my emission test done bi-annually to renew my plates.

I suspect guys running deleted that don't blow tons of black get away with it until their plates need renewing and maybe like the fellow above they return to stock when they need an emission test.

Go with the stealth delete. Find a take off used exhaust system, cut it into 3 pieces (at front of DPF and rear of CAT), gut it, weld back together and install. Tuner to delete and you're good to go for emissions testing. The whole cut gut and weld isn't bad really. Achievable in a couple hours. Won't fool any dealers working on your truck but will certainly fool the smog folks

Around here, The emission guy will stick a sniffer in the exhaust pipe and run your engine. If the guts are gone as suggested int eh Stealth delete above, It won't pass the emission test.

My tuner is unplugged. Tune it and unplug it. Solves that.

Not sure if the requirements where you are, but in CA there's no sniffer or even criteria for a sniffer. The entire smog check is visual. If the parts are there and you have no check engine light you're good to go.

Sounds like y'all need to move to a different state. No emissions testing in Ohio.

idk what tunes you guys are running but my 6.7 doesnt smoke at all. Maybe a small puff from a hard take off on the extreme tune but thats it.

But I also live in a free state so no emissions or inspections ever.

Im running the nGauge on a '12, stock turbo, 5+ FloPro, full weight reduction, Spartan tuned and I can blow smoke on my 120,165,200 horse tunes very easily. One full push to the floor and back off real quick will dump it. If im on the 165/200 horse tune and going 30-45mph up a small hill or with a light load (1000lbs) in the bed, I can make it smoke for upwards of 5+ seconds. Just the way that its fueling right before the turbo lights up. I dont do that around town obviously. Not sure how much of a difference it makes that I live at 6000 Ft elevation... Montana does not have emissions testing because most of us still ride our horses to work and we have to go uphill in the snow both ways. None the less, cops have seen kids do it around town here, they pull them over and give everyone a warning, never heard of a ticket being written here.(probably because the cops here go home and do the same thing)

In Ma the yearly inspection they do a "snap" test and plug the truck in to verify all systems are online. I must say I don't like the snap test as I watched the guy hold the brake and try to load the engine up while in gear trying to force it to smoke.

I've seen govmnt registered DOT trucks in Ohio with no DPF puffing black smoke merging onto the interstate.

In Maine I know of only one instance. My buddy who has an old 5.9 with "Roll Coal Militia" (Something like that) stickers on it was passing someone full bore blocking out 2 lanes of traffic in smoke. He was pulled over not for emissions but for excessive acceleration. I think it all comes down to where you live and what you are doing. My 6.4 smokes less then a big rig in a gear shift when I get on it and I prefer it that way. :)
