Honestly I think it's alot better to keep it plug in... in case you ever have to remove it. You can splice a few plugs together after the factory one so that you still have a 4 pin for something else.

I guess I could do that... but I would rather just hard wire it.... I don't plan on takeing the thing off....

 

I just plug mine in... and for some reason can't use the 4-pin at the same time as the round connector...

besides.. didn't Recon send instructions taht show how to hardwire it? I thought mine did... an I was going to eventually do that..

I do know you have to take the white wire and splice it into the backup lamp wire .. i took out my driverside taillamp and spliced it back there to keep the splice somewhat protected...

 

What if it breaks, or you smash it?* Plus I'm not a big fan of splicing factory wiring... you run into problems down the road.* Just my 2 cents... it's part of the reason I got rid of my white lightening bar and bought a regular one.

The wire tap that cuts the factory plastic coating over the wire to get the power from? Yeh... that's what I'm talking about.... I don't like cutting through that... I had problems out of my old truck when I did that Got a lil water in it, then had grounding problems... etc...

 

well I did just go outside and try to use the four pin connector just to see how it looks and only the left sides stayed on the whole time no matter what I did.... but I will just play with it and hardwire it myself... I will figure it out sooner or later... I figured out how to hard wire my train horn into my steering wheel... no extra button for me.. but i do have a switch to switch it from my truck horn, to nothing, to the train horn..

Use a dremel tool to clean out the contacts - I had the same problems at first.

 

mine only came with one wire tap.... not 4 or 5 of them

 

well if it breaks..... I will just splice it again... and if I smash it well I would have more worries than just a $100 light bar

 

I made a pigtail like this. plug into factory 4 flat and go. you have to tap into the reverse wire though.

 

This is exactly what I did.

say I keep the light bar plugged into the 4flat, can I still use the 8round for my travel trailer?

 

Yes, I have running board lights also on the same feed and all work fine, you will be fine.
