This is not a thread to compare gaskets or discuss which are better. I've made my decision to go with Fel-Pro MLS Gaskets.

About a month ago I noticed coolant on the floor of my garage under my truck. I opened the degas bottle after sitting for 12 hr and had a lot of pressure still. Started the truck and after 30sec what looked like steam coming out of the degas bottle was exhaust and bubbling coolant. This motor was from Blackwater and I have 50k miles on it. It came studded from them. I'm not blaming them as I love my tunes and use the truck to pull my 11k camper. Three years ago I dynoed the truck and it did around 475 hp.

I've read a lot of posts and decided to go with the Fel-Pro. I want to keep everyone informed on the progress of the replacement and if I have any problems in the future with the gaskets.

If anyone has used the Fel-Pro gaskets chime in with date installed and millage. I would like to know how they're working on you truck.

from the research done on one thread here the felpro look to be a good choice> I have not personally held them in my hand side by side with oem or... but fel pro has always made good gaskets for my gassers for years
I seem to remember a couple of the higher hp guys using them and havent heard of any failures yet so :thumb:

My plan is to update this thread every 2 months on the millage and anything that I think will impact the performance of the gaskets IE towing and from time to time the occasional showing off what a powerstroke can do. >:) I also hope those that are running the Fel-Pro will do the same.

I had Ford , Fel - Pro and Black diamond on my bench . All three are nice looking gaskets , the reason I chose the FP's ? , partly because
of the write up that the BPD people did in the sticky . They ( the gaskets ) have an extra boss stamped in them around the compression
area and while not a true " o ring " like UCF , it should be helpful . We shall see !
One thing about it , after this round , I know every bolt , nut and connection in there . I have the scars and blood stained close as proof .

Well here's an update to my current situation. Heads are off and here's a picture of the blown gasket. The heads were checked on Wednesday and both have been milled before and no more room to mill anything more. It's a reman from Blackwater. I now have on order 2 new heads. My wife asked me if there is anything else that we could sink more money into on this truck. I just shake my head and say I hope not. :dunno: Good thing I've got friends as diesel tech's and are willing to help me on cost.

Are you using 6.4 push rods ? I wonder what the limit for machining is after switching to the shorter rod ? I know there's a limit to min.
thickness but what else comes into play other than valve clearance ? If your only talking a .004" -.006" clean up shouldn't that be well
within the new push rod length difference .
It would be a shame to find out after buying new heads .

Actually 1 head had a crack between the injector and glow plug holes that was a concern. Since they had been milled before I opted for new ones. Push rods are the 6.4 length.

what heads did you buy ?
I went with new ITM heads . Didn't find a lot of info on the ORG about them. Maybe I was searching wrong. :dunno:

I don't know if you are familiar with run6.0run and his 6.0 Super duty Service business but he just posted on FTE that he is now using strictly Felpro HG's on any and all 6.0 rebuilds from this point going forward. It appears that Ford has changed their sealant properties and he has seen some failures from that brand (which he used exclusively until recently) and has since determined Felpro is now the better gasket. This can only be a good sign imho that Felpro is now the goto gasket for the 6.0 heads.

If you check with sdutys.com you should be getting some real life felpro results there soon. You will also find his contact info there, He's a good guy to have in your corner concerning the 6.0l beast.

If you're getting heads look at UCF.

Ok. Update, found a pair of rebuilt heads and put them on. The Fel Pro gaskets are going strong. I've towed my 11k camper 3 times about 800 miles total. I run the mild panty dropper almost all the time. I've run super panty dropper a few times for play time ;) All in all 10k miles and going strong. I'm happy with Fel Pro's so far.

I'm sorry I haven't kept up with this post. I guess when there isn't anything wrong I kind of forget about it. So here's an update 17k miles and over a year later and I couldn't be happier with the Fel Pro gaskets. I pull my 11k camper and don't have any worries. I can open the degas bottle after a drive and there is just a little pressure in it. :thumb:
