hey everyone I recently got a 05 6.0 which is stock under the hood. I am interested in in doing an EGR delete but I read that they are illegal, is this true? has anyone had any problems with it? is getting a bulletproof EGR cooler an acceptable subsitute? if so is there any brands that I should look into?
thank you for any help!

Yes it is illegal. It's illegal to tamper with any emissions equipment in all 50 states. Depending on where you live, you may not be required to do an emissions test so therefore it is easier to get away with since nobody is inspecting under your hood every year. If you are required to do emissions test or just don't want to take the risk, bulletproof egr cooler is the only other way to go. Only one company makes a bulletproof egr cooler, Bulletproof Diesel.

Yes, per federal regulations and I'm sure most, if not all, state regulations it is illegal to remove or substantially modify the EGR system. Some areas have inspections, some don't. Lots of folks are deleted. It's a chance they're willing to take. My solution is a BPD cooler and an EGR spool plug. It's not the perfect solution, but it works for me.

Maybe I'm just being an azz tonight, but why is this question even being asked?

Yes, it is illegal, and has been "illegal" to "tamper" with the emission components on ANY vehicle.

just get your existing egr cooler welded, blocking off the exhaust gasses from entering the intake manifold. Looks completely stock. To get proof that you tampered with it would require a full disassembly, which i HIGHLY doubt would ever happen, considering the cost involved, based on speculation. It boggles my mind that someone would spend so much on a bulletproof cooler, still introducing 1000+ degree temperatures into your combustion chambers while still having the possibility of it failing, when it can just be welded for NOTHING. Sure, some will say it's illegal, you mustn't do that... The same people who probably fudge their taxes, steal from work, and drive over the speed limit. And some just want to "feel" better about it at the end of the day, that's fine. I still i sleep like a baby on a set of double d's. But hey, to each his own.

welding up a stock cooler Sounds great in theory

then try to run through a state that has emissions and does the snap idle test and visual

you can't have a CEL illuminated ( many 6.0's will throw this when the EGR flow /function is not what it should be
so you have to run a programmer to block it problem is at snap idle they make you go to WOT and hold for 3-4 seconds

this will be a fail if your RPM's fluctuate and fluctuate they do with aftermarket programming so your screwed

much better to run a Quality EGR cooler like the BPD and run through emissions stock

then using a programmer turn off the EGR valve or run a billet EGR plug

IMO

It sucks imagine holding your truck to redline 2-3 times in a row then imagine failing and doing it again

then they made me move lanes and did it one more time it failed because of the way the tuners limit the RPM

it goes up and down in RPM whereas the Ford programing is dead steady

this is just AZ they have 0 clue what there doing and the test is a joke but what are you going to do?

they also check for an illuminated cel at startup then check for it to be off after it is running ( I so want to put a switch inline )

another reason I have a cooler still is Ford wouldn't do a delete while doing warranty but they would let me pay for a BPD cooler and use it instead of the OEM

My 05 ccsb is welded shut. Did it bout 25K miles ago, my only regret is I didn't do it long ago as I am the one owner of this truck. No CEL issues at all, no tuner or programmer needed. Just left the EGR valve in place and plugged in. Truck runs 1000% better! No worries regarding EGR failure while idling to warm up now. My vote, weld that baby shut and don't look back!!!! Gotta love the big wonderful state of Wyoming!!!!

My EGR valve remains in place and plugged in without CEL issues. EGR welded shut both ends.
