EGR delete and oil cooler questions

About 1 mo. ago I bought a '06 F350 6.0 with 178,00 mi on it. Week and half later the HPOP went south. Dealer said it also needed 2 injectors, serpentine belt, and suggested oil change, coolant flush and fill, and fuel filter change all to the tune of $4500.00. "4500 DOLLARS!!!" I said. Very soon after that I realized I didn't just buy a truck, I made an investment. So I've been doing some research (a lot of it here) to find out how to protect my new investment. Which brings me to my questions.

I want (need) to delete the EGR valve and cooler, and do a new oil cooler. Been looking at Sinister Diesel basic kit (EGR delete + oil cooler) and BPD air to oil cooler. Trying to justify spending $2000 (oil cooler and EGR delete) vs $600. Any thoughts welcomed. Also saw Sinister Diesel has a coolant filter, is this a good idea and if so would it be beneficial with the BPD air to oil cooler set up? Any advise is appreciated.

For the delete, only go that way if you don't get emissions tested. AZ does a visual, so I can't delete. I have a BPD EGR, and if you look at it it's solid construction compared to the ford installed EGR Cooler.

For the sinister oil cooler, I would stick with OEM. If you want to keep the oil cooler, look at the BPD or IPR remote. I have the Air Cooled oil cooler and it will never clog up because its completely detached.

Also, the '06 HPO is pretty solid, so I'd ask how they found it bad. Most trucks when leaking high pressure oil is not the HPOP. STC fittings, stand pipes, dummy plugs would be the likely culprits. Many other things like a bad IPR valve. A low high pressure oil reading does not mean it's automatically the HPOP. Since all those are internal in this, they oil leaks back into the engine and you don't see it leaking.

Live in central VA, no emissions in my county...yet.

I'm not intent on keeping the OEM cooler and the only advantage I see in making it remote is it will be easier to replace the next time it takes a crap. But I'm not sure I want to fork over the dollars for the air cooled oil cooler unless there is a considerable advantage in performance and longevity.

When the HPOP went I had no clue about anything Ford 6.0 diesel, but with what I've learned since I would probably attempt to repair it myself and saved me a couple of grand, o well lessons learned.

If you look at the sinister cooler you mentioned, there's a lot of posts with people having 25 degrees delta right out of the box. The other aftermarket in the valley cooler is Dorman. There's a You tube video of an OEM cooler and Dorman cooler side by side, and the Dorman cooler is not built as well. You can probably google Dorman cooler for the 6.0 and a few videos underneath the failed gasket in the Dorman cooler will be the cut away video. Got to be careful about autostore aftermarket parts in these trucks. The Sinister cooler may be alright if you don't tow, but not sure the performance otherwise.

IMO there's no cooler you put in the valley other than or better than OEM. I have the BPD air-cooled oil heavy duty cooler, but when I replaced mine, my oil cooler was bad.

Thanks very much for the info. I'm not dead set on the OEM type cooler, guess I'm just trying to justify spending the money for the BPD air to oil rig. From everything I've read BPD seems to have a very good product and more than anything I need reliability even if it costs more on the front end.
Any thoughts on who makes a good EGR delete?
Also any thoughts on coolant cooler?
Thanks again ChrisSki for the info!

The OEM Oil Cooler is fine for these trucks. Unless your pulling heavy I wouldn't bother. I have 38" tires on my truck and I pull a 5,000 lb trailer up the Sierra mountains all the time and don't see more then 10-12 degrees above ECT. I push it up the hill too and it works great. But if you want to go heavy duty the BPD cooler cant be beat.

If you stay with the OEM cooler ONLY and I mean ONLY use the Ford oil cooler. But you have to be using a ELC-1 coolant, its much better and that is what makes the OEM oil coolers go the distance.

Good idea. While you are in there, go with the 7.3 fan (if you tow heavy).

Best thing I ever did in order of functionality and badassness:

BPD oil to air setup with remote filter and egr cooler
KC Stg II turbo
7.3 fan
BPD (purchased from performance radiator) aluminum radiator
