They are different. They are of different output rating and mounting at a minimum.

 

you should be able to do what you are asking

it will be a 140 vs 110 output iirc but it will mount and plug right up

( I think Ford Doc is describing the upper and lower differences ? )

 

Thank you for your responses. I know about the different amperage. I was not sure if the truck could handle the higher amperage with out changing harness.

 

I'll confirm you can put the stock upper 140a dual system alternator on a single alternator truck. It bolts right up.

I stand corrected - I was indeed speaking of the differences between the upper and lower. Apparently flat-rate reading again. I see it now!

 

With all the newer things you have to be up on, the 6.0L is two dog lifetimes away.

 

I have a 2008 F350 dual alternator the bottom one caught on fire,got fire out. Disconnected all wires. Battery light on dash still on.,Can I fool the truck by feeding battery voltage back down the three wire plug on one of the wires?

 

The 6.4 uses a different alternator than the 6.0 ( PCM commanded)
so you may want to ask this in that section
