Dodge/Ram frames breaking

Dodge/Ram is having problems with their frames breaking, sometimes in two pieces right behind the cab. This is a real shame to see as Dodge isn't standing behind them and they are sometimes late model trucks.

Maybe this is why Ford invested so much into their new frame.

Here's a link to a thread about it with a picture of one broken in two.

It worked for me. Our township had a 09' Ram 4500 dump that broke in half at 4 years old. A buddy had it that day and had a backhoe bucket full of topsoil. Hit the button for the hoist and the box didn't move, then he heard a loud pop and the shook. When he got out the frame had kinked right behind the cab by a cross brace. Dodge apparently had numerous excuses as to why they didn't warranty it, from operator error, the outfitter attaching the hoist in the wrong spot(it was done at a major snow equipment manufacture) and finally misuse by the municipality. Last I heard they were still fighting in in court with 4 or 5 different parties. Needless to say the municipality went back with Ford and sold the other 3 Dodges.

You know, this isn't like this is a sticky brake caliper or something like that. This is a MAJOR problem. I would have thought that Dodge would have stood behind these trucks better than this.

That's an oil field truck. Driving on dirt roads all it's life and getting beat to hell by the crew. It most likely been cracked for a while but no one checks and just keep bouncing through the ruts. The frame should of kept together but either it's cheap steel or the wrong mix. Crappy deal it's happening and dodge isn't stepping up. Sooner or later someone is going to die and sh!t is going to get real and dodge is going to be hurting.

One would think that Ram would have stood behind that one just to avoid this kind of negative publicity. However, if they did, it would admit they are to blame. Then if someone dies in an accident related to this problem, they are to blame.
This is purely a case of CYA.

dodge makes the chity-ish trucks known to man... not surprising :dunno:

I have to wonder if Fiat is going to shift blame over to the previous owner, Daimler/Chrysler (the Germans) for the problem to avoid paying out big settlements.
This is going to be interesting to watch. In the interim, we all need to avoid riding near heavily loaded Rams on bumpy roads. Sadly, instead of a case of flying parts on the highway, It could be half of a truck.
This is a really sad state of affairs when public safety rates below corporate profit. Our families and children are being put in danger with substandard vehicles like this riding down the road while the unsuspecting owner thinks "all is well". So Sad!

Makes me glad I am choosing Ford over Ram. Never heard of anything like that happening before. Also why I am choosing to minimize the things done aftermarket. After all, if it is all factory parts, it will be more difficult to deny warranty issues.

Years ago I would have argued that point with you Z. However, with the immense improvements in these current automatic transmissions, their is no reason to want a hand shaker anymore.
I always miss a manual transmission until I buy another one, Then after the newness of shifting gears wears off, I miss the automatic. Especially when I'm trying to eat and drive.

The ram with the manual is a low hp and torque version of the Cummins

Eating while shifting my 10-speed in my Peterbilt is a must. Eat and keep working, or starve.

Well, they've made doing everything else illegal while driving. I wonder when the Nannies in Washington are going to get the bright idea of making eating and drinking (non alcohol of course) illegal and make cup holders illegal.

I know, I know,,, its highly unlikely. But I said that about legalizing Marijuana, and gay marriage 10 years ago and look what happened.

Uh, Washington State already made eating and drinking illegal this year. As a secondary offense. And moved cell phone usage to a primary offense.

If they make eating and driving illegal are they going to outlaw drivethroughs also?

#36 ·
Well, we can go one (crazy mind you) step farther...
If drinking alcohol and driving are illegal, shouldn't bars and night clubs be illegal unless the person arrives and leaves in a cab or bus?
One couldn't walk from the bar as that would be illegal too. Public Intoxication is illegal in most States.

I'm not advocating this, just playing Devil's advocate here to make the point about how NUTS! the Nanny State agenda has become.

No, drivethroughs we’re not outlawed but they were going crazy arguing that it was going to run them out of business.

Then everyone was freaked out for a couple weeks talking about how it’s now illegal to go through drivethroughs.

But a few months passed and everyone has forgotten about it and things are back to normal LOL.

I'll bet the liberal legislators that voted to pass that legislation could be found at the Starbuck's drive thru (if there is such a thing) in their Prius' the following morning.
