Deep Transmission Pan

What is everyone's thought on adding an aftermarket deep transmission pan? I do a lot of towing and I want to flush my factory fluid out and replace with AMSOIL and figured that would be a good time to replace the pan if it makes that big of deal on these transmissions. Truck is a 15 350 and has 70,000 miles

Don't know if there is one but if so I don't see what it would hurt performance wise. Obviously, my first concern is it hanging that much lower under the truck. That's certainly something I wouldn't want to get hit.

I think I would look at adding an additional tranny cooler (if possible) or maybe a bigger one (if it exists).

Keep in mind these trucks are steadily pushed to their limits and a lot of cases beyond. Could it just be easier to put a monitor on the truck and watch the temps and back it down when you approach temps you're uncomfortable with.

One thing I've noticed on mine is my oil temp actually claims higher than my transmission temps do and that's pulling hard when I was up in the mountains.

Not sure a deep pan is worth the money or not. The 6R has a thermostat that controls the temps in the transmission. Often there is no fluid being circulated through the cooler. They looks good. The price is not exactly inexpensive. I think you would be better off using the money for one or more fluid additional changes during the life of the truck.

I haven't seen many threads on the deep pans being installed nor transmission problems with the 6R. I visit 4 forums on regular basis.

Also, if Ford felt it needed a finned cast aluminum pan, it would have installed it at the factory.

Like they said it's not worth it. I know a guy who hotshot's and he's on the factory plastic oil pan and stock tranny pan, no issues at all. Also, I would advise against anything other than Mercon LV in that tranny. Ford states you don't even need to touch the fluid until 150k....can that be said about the Amsoil??

My fluid is starting to look pretty dirty. Almost feels like I get a slip in first sometimes. @79k I was thinking of doing this soon. Glad to read I can skip the pan! But no change until 150k scares me for sure.

My dealer suggested a hot fluid exchange at 70 and a fluid exhchange + filter at 140. If you are having slip from the trans, a fluid change is not likely to help you. 80 is not a lot of miles unless you tow every day all day. You may have another issue which could be exacerbated by new fluid.

Don't waste the money, they don't make any difference other than holding more fluid which means the more you heat up the longer it will take to cool down.

Yeah I’m a bit worried about it doesn’t do it all the time but when it does I’m noticing it’s from a stop and half throttle or more. At first the truck just sits there struggles to go almost does nothing compared to just rolling into it. Then all of a sudden it ****s and gets. Sometimes spinning the tires and sometimes I can’t tell if they spun or the trans slipped then a fairly hard quick shift to second.

That sounds more to me like turbo lag. I've heard it referred to as part of the tune to prevent excessive soot generation, so the truck is very light on fuel with a heavy throttle input until the turbo spools.[/QUOTE]

Heard of solutions to this?
Would it still smoke being light on fuel? It seems to be smoking more when this happens.
