Okay I apologize for this as it's probably been asked a gazillion times but today I tried to start my truck to haul a load to the dump and it just wouldn't fire. It is currently 40 degrees outside and previously starting in these temperatures was no problem. I replaced the glow plugs a little over a year ago and used OEM Motorcraft plugs because I was told they were the best and it worked fine for a long time until today. I am thinking it has to be the glow plug relay, I can't imagine a set of new glow plugs going bad that fast. I hardly ever drive it so they don't have a lot of hours on them since they were new. How do I tell if it's the relay aside from buying a new one and slapping it in there? Also what can I expect to pay for an OEM relay I assume is made by Motorcraft?

I plugged it in for an hour and it started just fine after that but being 40 degrees outside that definitely shouldn't be necessary. I know 7.3's are cold blooded but that's just a little bit extreme!

If you have a test light turn check and make sure you are getting power into the glow plug relay. That will be the lug with the black with red tracer on it. If so check for power on the other large lug that has 2 wires coming off of it. It will be a yellow wire and a brown wire. Check for power with the wait to start light on. Now mine the other day had power there but my truck would not start well at all. I replaced mine with a new ford unit motorcraft PN DY861 I think and all is well again. If you have power there then take a set of jumper cables and hook a positive to the brown and yellow wire side of the glow plug relay. Hook the other positive to the battery. Get in the truck and try to crank it. If it's the glow plug relay then it will start right up. If not report back and we will diagnose further. Hope it helps. If you need I'll post some pics for you.

Okay thanks, I will try that when I get a chance. It would be great to see some pictures to give me a visual if you don't mind.
