I am looking into buying my first diesel truck, but I want to get the best truck for my money so I'm considering a 7.3. But Im concerned about the fuel milage that I will get with one. So what is the best fuel milage that anyone has had with a 7.3 f-250

02 f250, 2wd, supercab shortbed, i avg. 14.5 in town, can easily get 20mpg on the highway, running php tunes but have a heavy foot, lol.

Our 2000 7.3l 4door long bed 4x4 gets almost 21mpg on the highway at 70mpg.
In-town it gets 15-16 depending on the driver. (It gets driven by my dad, mom, me, little brother)

With a 5 speed, 3.55s, factory sized tires at 60+ psi, driving, at most, the speed limit, I can net 24 mpg. Not too bad on a 17 year old truck. Regular cab, lwb, 2wd, weighs right at 6k with 38 gallons of fuel and me in the truck. Also, generic tunes.

No tunes, DIY intake, straight pipe - Winter 13 city, 16.5 highway. Summer 13 city, 18 highway.

Note: summer city doesn't change since windows are normally down and I tend to stand on it more!

Average of 15.1 since January. Average now on highest tune with my programmer and warmer weather of 16.5. Have seen as high as 23 with straight highway driving.

i have hit 19.5 with my 2 wheel drive f250.it has 4.10's.

if you want mileage alone, cummins do very well. but the truck is junk, the motor is great. if you want a good combo, get a psd. sacrafice a few mpgs for a truck that holds together.

I average about 14 in town and 17-18 on the freeway with 38's. Truck is all stock for about another month (when I get back from deployment its on!). And I live in a small town in Texas so not much traffic and its REALLY flat.:icon_ford:

First off, you don't buy these trucks for the MPG they get... As you can tell, most people get 12-14 mpg in the city (based on various performance parts) and 17-20 mpg on the highway... that's about all you can expect. There are the occasional vehicles that will be the outliers of the "box and whisker" plot, but these are the norms for sure.

Get the 7.3 for the reliability. You won't ever have to worry about dumb EGR valves, DPFs, oil cooler issues, turbo van line issues, etc etc etc... just do the normal maintenance, change out the water pump and thermostat, and you're pretty much set for 800k miles. :thumb:

Although that IS why I got a 7.3...

I went for mileage, also. :wink[3]:

My Hemi 2500 couldn't get out of it's own way when it was towing or plowing, and sucked gas ALL THE TIME. 10-12mpg was HORRIBLE.

Its sad when Diesel, cheaper bu $.30-.50 a gallon, is CHEAPER to drive, esp when its a bigger/heavier/longer truck! :tard:

I think something is up with mine. Im getting the worst mileage now than I ever have. I have only gone 77 miles on this tank and Im between 1/2 and 3/4 of a tank. Granted this is all city driving but Im looking at about 7-8 mpg this tank. I dont know whats up

I got 21.4 at 60 with my cclb 4x4 early 99 stock,
and with 37s and 9" of lift I could get 17 if I kept it out of boost with a dp 60hp tow tune

My tanks normally average 15-18 MPG depending on driving and how much I tow (usually isn't too heavy). Best tank ever was just shy of 19 MPG, and was from Prescott, AZ to Havazoooo, AZ (it's all downhill). That was when I had just gotten the truck, stock airbox, straight piped exhaust, Edge Juice with Attitude, and crappy stock hubs that were stuck in lock.

i just bought my truck a couple months ago so i have only filled it 3 times 1st tank 12 2nd tank 13 about this time i was getting nervous, granted it was the first diesel truck of my own and it was difficult to keep it out of boost:sly: before this last tank though i changed the air filter and cut a hole in the end of the airbox and it also warmed up a little, with mixed driving i got 16 with some winter blend fuel still in it:approve: i am a lot happier now. i am planning on getting some custom tunes, getting rid of the cold weather and winter fuel and am hoping for around 18:please::eek:hnoes::wink[3]:

Do you still have a muffler? That was the big ticket with my truck. No muffler = jump in mpg

my 7.3 with 37's, 410s, and 9" of lift got mid to high teens. I have a 6 leaker with similar mods (40s and 10") and can't even hit double digits :(
