Anyone use Hot Shot Secret Stiction Eliminator? Does it work?

My 6.0 seems to start a little rough when it's cold....might be a stiction issue, might be normal...not really sure. One of my buddy's who has had a 6.0 for year told me that I need to order some Hot Shot Secret Stiction Eliminator......dump it in with the next oil change, and it will make a huge difference in how well my 6.0 will start in colder temps.

After doing a little research, it sounds like for the ignition "treatment", they want you to dump in 64oz (2 quarts) of the stuff.....and then 5,000 miles when you do your next oil change, it drops down to 32oz (1qt) every 3rd oil change after that.

Has anyone tried this stuff? Is it just snake oil, or is it worth the $54 to give is a shot? I'm more worried about having so much additive in with my oil.....that's 2 out of the 15 quarts being some sort of additive.

Anyone tried this stuff? Good? Bad? Horrible??

Thanks!! :thumb:

agreed with above post, Archoil and hot shots are the more popular. With that being said I use ArchOil at every oil change. It adds about 40 bucks to the cost but I believe my 6.0 had stiction and it fixed it. Now to be safe I use it at every oil change.
If one has to worry about 40 bucks one should not own a diesel in my opinion. Buy a gasser and save 100 bucks just in oil change costs alone.

But basically.
I use ArchOil and it works for me.

OP,
Are you running full synthetic oil yet?

Is your FICM voltage and charging system up to par?

I use archoil religiously and although I don't have issues (now) it most likely has prevented issues from arising. My friend used it (hot shot) years ago and didn't notice much help from it so I personally will never touch it.

No, yes, yes  Haven't done as oil change yet on this thing (just got it a few weeks ago...no sure what oils in it). FICM holds strong at 48.5-49 all the time. Battery voltage is good as well as voltage while the motor is running.

Maybe I need to start another thread on this.....but the whole "what's the best oil" thing has me baffled. I've been reading and reading and reading through as many threads as I can find on the internet about what's the best oil for the 6.0's.....and it's all over the board. I bet I've read through at least 100 different threads on multiple diesel boards. I think I've seen just as many "experts" telling guys that a fully synthetic 5w-40 diesel oil is the best as there are "experts" saying that the conventional Motorcraft 15w-40 is the best. It's really all over the place.....and everyone has their technical reasons why each is better than the other.

Is that pretty much the same for all fully synthetic 5w-40 oils.....or is the T6 far superior over the others like the Mobil1, and Valvoline that some guys seem to love?

I can only speak for Shell Rotella T6. It's all I have used. But I have recommended it to a handful of my friends. All of them stick with it. One of them was gonna go through his GPsystem, but didn't after switching oil. I'm no oil expert, I've learned what works from these very forums

To not use synthetic oil in ANY MOTOR VEHICLE is just silly and cheap.
The values of syn oil is immeasurable.
and if you are going to own a motor vehicle...ESPECIALLY A FINNICKY DIESEL LIKE A 6 LITER POWERSTROKE and not use a syn oil...well you should NOT OWN IT. buy a gas engine and be happy. 6 liters are picky and need to be treated special. and you will benefit any engine by using syn oil....dino oil is a thing of the past. I have not used regular oil in ANY engine of mine in over 20 years.
Mix in Archoil oil iun your powerstroke and you will seriously reduce any issues you could potentially have.

This is my opinion, yours may vary.

Just ordered 4 gallons of Rotella T6 5w-40 fully synthetic off of Amazon.......that seems to have a pretty good reputation as a good oil to run in the 6.0 PSD's. It was cheaper that buying the Motorcraft conventional 15w-40 oil from my local Walmart.......I can't really think of a reason not to run fully synthetic oil if I can get it for that price.

Stiction already? I tried to get you to buy my nice, well maintained one owner rig that’s just a few miles south of you but nooooo, you had to do your own thing and now look, your truck smokes like a train when you start it!

I still think you should have come down here and test driven mine but just to show you there are no hard feelings, here’s a link to get a $20 rebate on that oil!

Running T-6, I could see a noticeable difference after every oil change, which tells me something. My truck likes fresh oil, but why does it improve, unless the oil is very broken down?? With Mobil 1 I don’t notice a difference after oil changes. The injectors don’t seem to get noisier. We shall see soon when I change out my first run of Delo with fresh.

I did a write up on Hot Shot a couple of years ago. It was based on results not opinion or cost.

Same here looks like a HSS add. My opinion was based on results that I personally experienced. RevX worked for me but then again HSS May work better for someone else. To me the difference in the two were night and day.

My opinion has never changed. Whether it works or not, my 6.0 has been more places than yours and tows heavier than yours and I’ve never paid for a drop of snake oil or any credible oil additive. So from a money standpoint, I’m winning with zero spent on oil additive (aka snake oil for short)

My truck been up to Alaska to, my family has a cabin at 9000ft. I can tell you archoil and rev x made a difference in cold start. My oil get change every 3000 miles, didnt use it up tell about 120000 miles. my injector started having some problem, so I put rev x in and finally upgrade my injector at 175000. Ive got friend that own shop and work on 6.0 daily and swear by it. What’s the mileage on your truck.
