I was just kidding Eli. If there was an overturned semi that lost a Andy Warren trans it would be worth a trip with a shovel and probe. I do get to Spokane a handful of times a year though, one day we'll have to line em up.

LOL!
You caught us off guard cuz snoqualmie and Lookout passes were both actually closed down.

I just read through your post carefully and realized you were messing with me.

And yeah shoot me a PM when your in town. Man... Everyone wants to line up with me.. What am I, a celebrity? :hehe:

Since your new tranny is getting raybestous clutches doesn't that mean you can use different type of tranny fluid?

Be sure and post up what you find out.

You don't need raybestos clutches to run a different trans fluid. I have suncoasts kit and run cheap Carquest brand mercon/dexron fluid. Going on nearly 5 years with no problems.

You don't have to use any other fluid other than LV/SP if you don't want to. You may be able to use other fluid, but the LV/SP will definitely work as I'm using it right now.

That's the OEM ford tranny fluid right?
So he doesn't want us changing to a different oil when using his built tranny?

You do not need to use different fluid. You can use the LV or SP fluid with Andy's trans like Nate said. Or you can use mercon/dexron stuff or even amsoil's fluid. Anything will do.

Yes the LV/SP is the OEM fluid.

I asked Andy about which Amsoil tranny fluid he recommended using since I was going to use Amsoil and he recommended using their Signature Series Multi-Vehicle ATF. However, I had already bought the LV/SP equivalent. He said that he didn't see that by using that fuild causing any issues and so far I haven't seen any issues. I'll get more miles on the tranny and let you know.

Thats one thing I really like about my trans, I can get ATF for it anywhere.

What's the best though?
The oem stuff is freaking expensive!

So going to napa or Oriellys and getting the Mercon/dexron stuff is going to be ok.?

The cheap stuff will be fine. I know most guys do what you just mentioned...get the cheap mercon/dexron from o'rielly's, NAPA or Carquest. I run the cheap Carquest brand.

What about the oem stuff left in the cooler and lines? time to blow it all out then refill?

D

It needs flushed or replaced, especially your's Eli. Lol The cooler will hold all the clutch material that has come out of your 2 blown trannies.

Lol.
Now how exactly would I go about doing that? I've never messed with transmissions before other than swapping them. I wanna make sure that I do this once the correct way!

Flush it out with compressed air, and then Use a trans flush product. There is one most wuto parts stores sell called trans clean. Has a hose on the can that screws to the trans line and then push the button and flush the lines. I would do this foward and reverse and then follow up with compressed air to blow all the fluid out. Then install new trans and do burnouts!!!

Edit: The trans flush is like brake clean. It will be clear. The goal is to see clear fluid coming out of the lines.

The stock trans cooler cannot be flushed and needs to be replaced. Also make sure you change the filter on the frame rail. You can flush the lines out with brake clean then some clean fluid through them
