Not sure if this has been posted yet or not but there has been a recall on ALOT of 7.3L diesel camshaft position (CMP) sensors, Ill post the trucks that have been recalled later i think around 1.2 million trucks have been recalled. my neighbor's 01' was recalled, his sons 97' was, my 97' was, my grandfathers 02' was, and they will replace it for free if yours is recalled. I think its about a $1,200 fix other wise.

REASON FOR THIS SAFETY RECALL
In some of the affected vehicles, the Camshaft Position (CMP) Sensor may fail due to circuit
degradation. If the CMP Sensor should fail, the engine may stall. In the event of an engine stall, a
crash could result without warning. A new CMP Sensor with improved reliability is now available.
SERVICE ACTION
Dealers are to inspect the CMP Sensor to verify which design level sensor is installed in the affected
vehicles, and replace all prior level sensors. This service must be performed on affected vehicles at no
charge to the vehicle owner.
OWNER NOTIFICATION MAILING SCHEDULE
Parts to repair this condition are currently not available in sufficient quantities to service all of the
affected vehicles. Therefore, to ensure that an ample supply of parts is available, owners of affected
vehicles will be notified in separate phase mailings over several months. Phase mailing will begin the
week of December 17, 2007; prioritized by age of vehicle. Dealers should repair any affected vehicles
that arrive at their dealerships, whether or not the customer has received a letter....

I havnt gotten one yet either but my truck was recalled so they fixed it for free.

I dont know, is all i know is the guy at the ford dealer said its about a $1,200 fix if it wasnt recalled. so just saying what i was told.

the cps/cmp is only $27 at the dealership and it takes all of 10 min to change

Yup you can get them for cheaper then $27, but I dont know if thats all they change or what any how id rather pay nothing then $27 so.

This recall has been out for a long time. I'm not letting them anywhere near my truck to replace mine. If they want to mail me a replacement one, that would be fine....

A lot of people are having issues with the gray CPS that they have come out with and are putting in everyones trucks. I have a black one in the truck, and a black spare, in the glove box, and they ain't gettin either one of em...

I recommend that anyone who has this recall done, also buy a black CPS somewhere as a sapre (they're so cheap now)in case your "new and improved" gray one takes a dump on you. This used to be a $180-300 part guys. People have had problems with the CPS since '94 when the PSD was introduced. Ford waited until the motor was out of production for about 4 years....then they dropped the price to $25 and issued a "safety recall"


I would have someone arrested if they tried to charge me $1200 for this.

I'd bet if that little plastic piece cost $1200, none of us could afford to drive these things. Bad enough as it is! FORD replaced mine before last Christmas when I got another free tranny. Now that is worth about $1200...maybe. :hehe:
