Does anybody know how many parts need to be upgraded before a manual transmission is ready to hold some serious power let's say around 550 HP/ 850 Ft. Lbs Just for kicks, Is a Heavy Duty Clutch Kit all that I need to have some safe High Horsepower without risking my tranny? Or is there more parts to be upgraded that make it easier to just get an Auto.

You would have to do quite a bit of stuff to get 550 horse. And with 550 horse 850 torque is a low number, usually torque is around double what the horsepower is, so if you had the 550 expect over 1000 torque. South Bend makes a clutch rated for 550/1100 that would do just fine.....other than that manuals are usually able to tolerate numbers up to that without other modification.

Not sure on the hp output of my D-Max but all i upgraded was the clutch and Flywheel, the tranys are a bit different but still they are both ZF 6-650's. Zf rates the trans for only 520lb ft input, the 6.0's run more than that stock and i know mine is atleast over that and has been for 20k now!!!!!!

In TDR magazine they took an 03 manual tranny dodge and put a TST box, Aurora 5000 Turbo & head studs, fuel pump upgrade and stuck a South Bend Con-FE single disk clutch and made 497 to the wheels and reported that the clutch held the power with no slippage. So with that the level at the flywheel was probably near 540 or so.

The FE is alil grabby compaired to the stock clutch b/c of the material. And if you want all out HP they have dual disc's available now for the ZF's.

I wish I could find a 6 speed Duramax, but I can't find a single used one for under 20K. If I could, I would go for it bc of the huge selection of parts without having to dump twice as much into the transmission first.
