hey guys i did the high idle mod on my 06 and like it alot and so did my brother so he wanted me to hook it up on his 08, i noticed the wiring was different on the 08 than my 06, i searched the net and decided to go with the yellow/green wire for PTO mode, he has an auto tranny and to my understanding this feature engages the torque converter. will this harm his truck? i dont forsee any problems but not real sure, i searched this site briefly but came up with nothing really, so if anyone could please let me know how most guys on here a rigging there high idle up to there upfitter switches i would be more than grateful. thanks alot in advance!

Ya the yellow w/ green strip is the correct wire I have not hear of any problems. I can't find the thread now maybe someone else can, hook to 3 or 4 upfitter I think they are the low amp ones check the owners manual

I would love if someone would tell me the steps on how to do this especially with winter approaching here in Alberta

There was a thread about it some time ago, but the directions were cross posted from a ford tech site........not in plain english and not easy to understand. I couldnt make sense of it.

I just want to know which wire is the SEIC and if all i do is connect it to the #4 upfitter.

Don't know if I am allowed to link to another site so I'll copy/paste

Ok here is a quick run down of how to do the high idle mod.

First locate the wire harness under the dash, near the OBDII port.

The lower part of the harness with the most wires in it, is the pto harness, You can see in the picture that everything is labeled, you want to find the PTO wire, on my truck its labeled as yellow with a green chaser.

Then i used the #4 upfitter switch to tie into it which in this case the wire is brown. I chose the number 4 switch because it is the lowest amperage of all of the switches (5 amp)

As you can see i just used a butt connector to make the connection, you dont even need to put a jumper wire in, you can just tie the two wires together and your good to go.

To make the high idle work you MUST have the park brake on and the truck has to be in Park. Flip your switch and it should high idle in a couple seconds.

If you do not have upfitter switches in your truck its the switches in your truck, then you will either have to wire a switch up yourself that provides 12v to the pto wire OR you can just hook a hot wire to the pto wire and leave it all the time (not recomended) If you chose to do it this way, any time you are in park with the park brake on it will high idle.

Yup. I just did it this morning. Took 2 minutes. The PTO wire bundle comes off of the main harness just fwd of the OBD port. Its wrapped in white tape and all the wires are capped. The white tape indicates what is what. Lots of them say PTO...along with something else. The one you want says only PTO. My truck is a 10', and it is the yellow with green chaser. Same as listed on the 08's. I would venture to guess its yellow with green tracer on all 6.4's. The Upfitter #4 wire is small gauge brown. Connect the two, put your park brake on with trans in park. Flip the switch and revs will slowly increase to 1200. Bingo.

This is such an easy mod. Why wouldn't ford do this from the factory?

ford said they could hook something up for me and it would cost about $300 i just did this this morning and literally took 2 min thanks guys

After using the high idle just once I threw code p162e now if I try to flip uprights switch 4 a wrench symbol comes on my dash and high idle won't work the only way it will work is if I clear the code. Any ideas?

Sorry to jump in here but why would you want your truck to idle high? My truck does it when ever it goes into regen and I come to a stop with my foot off the brake or if I put it in park, but it i step on the brake it goes back to normal, is this normal? I figured it was a regen thing, are you guys just speeding up the warmup?

I deleted the dpf and yes that is normal for yours but sounds like you could use a flash update and I work where my truck idles a lot and in high idle the exhaust temp stays above 275 and avoids gumming things up

Mine dosent work. I connected the yellow with green stripe to the brown and get nothing. Mine is a 2010. Any suggestions? The light on the switch lights up when I flip it up so I aussume there is power. Any help is appreciated. Thanks

Same thing happened to me when I used a but connector so I took it off and just twisted tge wires together taped them up and now it works

I just did this mod and was super easy. I am new to the diesel world and am wondering if you have to wait any certain amount of time before turning this on or can you just hit the switch right away on any cold morning??? Thanks
