my water pump bit the dust and I am putting together my parts list to get everything ordered. I am going to do filtration this time and do it all right. I am still toying with the idea of get thing the water pump with the filter versus just adding the filter kit. I have a single alternator so I don't have worry about fitment issues. Is there any advantages of one over the other? I will also be replacing both hoses and the thermostat regardless of filter path. It seems to be cheaper to get the add on filter versus the filtered water pump. But the main question is; Is it worth it? Should I get the 203 deg thermostat or the stock 195. If I go with the filtered water pump it comes with a 205 acorring to

I live in Florida and rarely travel to North Georgia/ Tennessee area. our temps throughout winter stay in the 60 to 70 on average with an occasional dip to 40s, and a hand full of time to the teens.

Truck is a late 99 f350 7.3l auto with 200k on the clicker.

Any advise is appreciated.

IMHO the 203*F T-stat is a complete waste of time and money. Just made my already bad AC worse, saw no other noticeable differences in power, fuel economy, engine noise... anything.

:ditto:

I am not a fan of the 203* t-stat myself. Your oil temps will just go higher in the summer, especially if you are towing. The hotter the oil, the thinner it gets. I have seen this cause issues with ICP stabilization.

Fuel mileage gains will be very small, if you see them at all.

If your gong to do anything different from the factory temp thermostat. I would do the lower temp one from mishimoto. I think it's 192. There is also a 188 one but I can't remember who makes it.
Joey at Terminator offers 180* t-stats.

I'm not sure the OP mentioned the primary use for their truck. I certainly understand that a truck used for frequent towing in hotter climates might not benefit.

I see the benefit of the 203 thermostat being for a truck in colder climates, or for trucks that are used for frequent short trips. I think everyone will agree that 7.3's get a little irritable if they do not reach operating temperature frequently when started.

I do not tow very often if at all any more. It has recently sat more than it was being driven. I am now daily driving it just to knock the dust off. I love the truck but dont really need the truck. A daily trip is normal about a 20 min run at 60 mph or 18 miles one way twice a day.

I noticed my heater got warmer. I wouldn't waste the money on it. If you get one test it before you install it. Mine was faulty and ended up staying closed all the time.

Heres a dumb question, but how did you verify that it was staying closed all the time? Did you in fact test it before you put it in or did you notice after you put it in?

A few months ago I installed the Dieselsite filtered pump, 203 degree stat, Dieselsite lifetime hoses, billet aluminum t-stat housing and Dieselsite turbo boots. It's a nice set up. Jennifer at the Dieselsite is super with customer service. It comes with three filters. They give you enough to change them out three times in the first year to get all the trash out of the system. I can't say enough about the great people at Dieselsite. They are top notch with any questions and will walk you through the install if you get stumped.

I also installed a Dieselsite "Max A/C assist". If I lived in Florida like you, this would be a MUST. This thing really makes the A/C run cooler. It shuts off the flow of coolant to the heater core while on Max A/C which drops the vent temps considerably. I love a cool truck in the summer. This thing works and was well worth the cost.

Stick a pot of water on the stove. Crank up the stove, get thermometer and drop the thermostat in and watch it open up!
