I recently picked up a 2017 XL SD and absolutely hate the 4" screen. I've done some searching and found that you can upgrade it to the 8" SYNC system, but it's pretty pricey.... around $1800. Curious to know if anyone has done some other upgrade such as a Pioneer or Alpine touchscreen head unit. What did you go with, where did you get it and was the installation easy or hard? Trying to stay under $800 for this upgrade it at all possible. Any info you have to share would be greatly appreciated.

I have a 16, but threw a pioneer head unit in. Unit was 750, another 100 for the box, 50 for backup camera, and taxes to integrate into factory steering wheel controls. It's a lot of wiring that you need to do on the harnesses prior to install but after that it's just plugging in and stuffing it all in the dash. Was about 950 out the door. I could have gone cheaper but I liked the specs on this unit.

I went through Crutchfield. Not the cheapest but IMO the best customer service which I support.

I also HATE the stupid little 4" screen. I have a box full of parts from Crutchfield sitting at home to fix that problem as soon as I get my truck back from the dealership. I went with a JVC unit because it has more features such as vehicle information, diagnostics, etc built in. Also, JVC is allegedly one of the brands where you can run the parking brake wire on the harness directly to a ground and it'll work. You don't have to actually wire it to the park brake. The head unit itself was around $450, but the new bezel, wiring harness, and Maestro module (to make the steering wheel buttons work and everything talk to each other) was another $330. I paid the extra $24 fee to have them go ahead and connect all the harnesses for me so it'll be 100% plug and play.

Good to know and thanks for sharing. Crutchfield’s website isn’t allowing me to add the pre-made wiring harness option, so I may have to give them a call. I know it won’t be a “cheap” upgrade, but it’s better than the nearly $2k option I found from another vendor.
