Time to upgrade from my 6.0 to a 6.7. Debating a custom ordered 2017 KR or get a 2016 KR on the lot. Can anyone summarize for me the major changes from the 2016 to 2017 model?

Get the 2016 it's cheaper, much better looking, and has a steel body.

So a cheaper made body, ugly looking body style, 65 extra ft lb that can easily be made up for when the 16 is tuned and deleted, boxed steel frame that can't be much of an improvement over the old on since the tow ratings are identical, and a bunch of other electronic stuff that you don't need and will be expensive to fix when they quit working. I'd go with the 16.

When I stopped in at my local dealer to test drive a 17'. I was told that the turbo, injectors, and tuning are different on the 17' models compared the 16' models. That is how the extra HP & torque were achieved.

Aluminum is actually a more expensive bodythan steel, and every one has their own opinion of ugly. I know I am not willing to give up a 100,000 mile warranty by tuning, to get back the 65 pound feet of torque lost by buying a 2015. Maybe jd4010 is maybe he isn't, his choice. As far as the electronic stuff you refer that will go bad, once again that is a opinion. My wife owns a 2013 Ford Explorer that has all of the electronic equipment that is offered on the 2017 f250 with the exception of the adaptive steering, not one problem. If you go back and read jd4010's original post he asked for a summarization of the differences, not a recommendation on which truck to buy. As for me I have one of, as you say, those ugly 2017 f250 platinums on order and can't wait to get it. Jd4010 get what suits your wallet and your visual preference you are the one that has to drive it.

There are a few small power train changes. Small stuff and the low pressure fuel circuit is different and now has an in the tank fuel pump. I personally love the look of the new 17s with a few mods. I can't wait until the day comes I can afford to bring one home. A couple guys I have seen have bought basic no frills XL work trucks and went to town on the wheels/suspension/looks and they look great.

Thanks for all the replies and even opinions.

My number 1 priority is reliability. As much as I love my 6.0 Lariat and despite absolute meticulous maintenance, she has let me down too many times. As posted on the 6.0 forum, lost 2 injectors on the way hauling a 5er to Disney on 12/24. Those 2 injectors were brand new....had less than 1500 miles on them for sure. And without going into detail, all my vitals like fuel pressure, FICM voltage, etc were perfect. That incident alone cost me $2200 in repairs, $360 in car rental and $643 in towing. $3200 in unplanned expenses. No codes. No warning. This was the 3rd and final time.

So anywho, we're going to "move on up" to a 6.7 King Ranch so we can get some more creature comforts. I just didn't want to find myself buying a new model year with major drive train changes that I'd be kicking myself for. I love gadgets but again....more concerned about that reliability factor. And it sounds like the motor from a 2016 to 2017 are consistent which makes it somewhat easier on my mind.

See attachment below.

2017 - 2017 Super Duty Truck | Specifications | Ford.com

2016 - 2016 Ford Super Duty | View Full Specification Library | Ford.com

Bigger axles, bigger brakes, tows more, hauls more, boxed frame, bigger fuel tank, bigger cab... Pretty much everything is bigger and stronger on the '17. LOL

I can't find anything specific yet on engine changes but I think there was some changes to the fuel system, exhaust, it takes 2 more quarts of oil, different single sequential turbocharger.

Absolutely no comparison whatsoever in my book. I have a 2015.5 Denali duramax that I quite like. I drove the 2015 Platinum power stroke and hated it. Outdated design and same basic body since 1999. It really is ridiculous it took ford this long to overhaul the design.
Now for the 2017... What a nice truck! I'm a dodge guy at heart but have no problem admitting the new Super Duty is the best truck out there. You are going to pay more than the 2016 but resale is going to be way better!! Plus you won't be driving such an outdated truck.

I appreciate the replies. Have an appointment on 1/16 to get a trade in valuation at the dealership. I've already sent build specs to several in the area (and out of state as well) with the plan on signing the paperwork on February 4 for a late March or early April delivery.

Haven't purchased a brand new car since 1996 so I'm jazzed about this!

12 weeks will work even better really. Building a new shop and 12 weeks will coordinate well for giving this new rig a new home! Plus gives me more time to sell my 6.0 privately instead of taking a bath on a trade. Dealer has also told me that if the incentives are greater upon delivery, I'll get them too. Win win!

2016 f450 was 19,000 but either way good luck trying to tow that much weight on a conventional trailer.

17stroker you are exactally right, tow ratings have gone up dramatically for the 2017. I think what confuses people is that they aren't looking at the same truck. The truck that will tow the most in its respective category is the lightest truck. For example a extended cab 2 wheel truck can haul more and tow more than a comparably equipped crew cab 4 wheel drive truck. The weight that is added to the truck is subtracted from its payload and its towing capacities. At least this is the way I understand it from what I have read.
