Hey all I’ve searched and haven’t found the answer I’m looking for or maybe I’ve over looked it. How much do you have to shave off the calipers to make a 16.5” wheel fit on an 08? I’ve found a hell of a deal on some Welds and want to put them on. Any info would be great!

You would probably have to measure yourself to find it to be honest. Plus 16.5s are really going to limit future tire purchases and if you ever have caliper issues you gonna grind things again and hope it works out. As good as a deal as it is now, in the long run its not cheaper. I would highly encourage you find the regular 17-18s or larger that came with the truck.

16.5s have less selection
many tire brands phased out that size rim fit for tires
week bead seats-low pressures and super easy to pop tires of the wheels if you air down or don't catch a leak

no clue on brakes so it sounds risky in general etc. even griding .5inch off a brake caliper etc. no telling how thick the cast is on those things now.

i would pass on them

but if you decide to go with them look them over really good for hairline fractures
there is a reason Weld disappeared for a while and came back as a whole different company

and like mentioned 16.5 and the lack of a safety bead just makes this a aesthetics vs safety issue

The good think about 16.5" rims is you can by the 37" military surplus tires for $125-150 per tire and they last a long time.

The bad part is I'm running 35" tires. I don't think I can make 37's fit

You made a lot of valid points, I just love the old school look of some stone crushers, plus i can't afford the new forged line from Weld.

Very true, I drive the truck daily. I definitely wish I could afford the new line of wheels they came out with!
