Why not just use the motorcraft recommended fluid?

 

On the quest for something that would reduce wear on the E clutch hub. I'll stick to the MC fluid for now.

 

Always stay with a fluid that meets the specification the manufacturer recommends. ULV has a much lower viscosity and possibly a different additive package. Here is the warning we are given: "Using any transmission fluid other than what is specified can result in the transmission not operating normally or premature transmission failure." I wish they would expand on this a little more. The only other thing I can find is that not using ULV may cause shuddering. during clutch application.

A guy on the site claimed to have used their LV in his F150's 10r80 and he said it made it confused and would go into neutral while driving. I'm Astonished they would recommend a LV in a 10r...

 

Only I could understand changing would be if the clutch material used in a rebuild kit called for different fluid. The additive packages in the fluid primarily alter the friction coefficient of the clutches. Otherwise Inwould stuck with what’s recommended.

 

If they had a ULV, why recommend an LV? I will never understand that. Those guys on that oil site said it was fine....oooofffff

 

I accidentally ordered amsoil ATF as it does state it's ULV. After doing some digging it's not even close to right viscosity. Only a few companies make a true ULV. Vavaline, Liqui Moly and motorcraft. Everything other motorcraft is very expensive.

 

Yes, I don't care what a company says, a lv is NOT ulv. Change the fluid in the trans every 25-50k with MC ulv and it will last. If you don't, it won't.
