Fan Clutch Difference

I will say right off the bat, that I am being a cheap @$$ and maybe I shouldnt...

With that out of the way, what is the difference between the fan clutch on a Super Duty with a 5.4, a v-10 and a 7.3psd? The fan clutch for the 5.4 is $50, while the clutch for the 7.3 is $180. They look the same, they feel the same, they have the same fan depth, they have the same threads, they bolt up the same, and they are both reverse rotation... so what makes the $130 dollar difference?

Is there any good reason I couldnt use the gas version on the diesel?

I just dont know what the real difference would be, they are pretty simple devices.

Input?

I know I've read about guys who just ditch the fan all together. So is it a safe bet that the gasser clutch would buy me some time until I can get the propper part in there. I drive mostly unloaded on the highway, but I do see ocasional traffic jams where I'm driving 5-6 miles at 20 mph. Thats why I'd like to have some sort of a fan.

My fan wobbles pretty bad on the end of the shaft there, and I'm afraid of throwing the fan through the rad if it gets much worse.

Just pull the fan now. The wobble of unbalanced weight is killing the bearing in the water pump. But, the radiator is easier to replace than the water pump you are tearing up.

I've had my truck at idle for about 20 min without a fan. Just don't run the a/c. The cooling system can take it, but monitor your oil temps. If your oil hits 230*, change it. Oil temp is gauge ford SHOULD have put in.

Well, I pulled it on friday evening. Everything has been fine. I will get a new clutch put in it soon. I have to get the fence put up for the wife first. Thanks for the help!
